NFL Week 5

when are the bengals going to bench andy dalton?

In favor of who?

Anyone else who is available

AJ Mccarron isn’t going to make their O-line better. Did you watch the game or just think that the 1995 Cowboy’s D-line time traveled? You should read more and post less.

If the Keystone Kops played football, this would be the game (CAR-TB).

Mystifying series of decisions made by everyone involved on that last drive.

Panthers are now 1-4 and maybe done

It was one of the sloppiest games I’ve ever been to. Muffed punt; lots of turn overs; bad coaching decisions; bad player decisions. Just ugly.

Thanks for that insightful analysis.

No problem. Giants almost done too

Interesting that the Redskins got Baltimore’s offensive coordinator fired. That seemed like a pretty quick pulling of the trap door by the Ravens.

I thought a lot of Kap’s problems last year stemmed from him being (undisclosedly) hurt. Is there reason to think that he might do better this year if he has healed in the interim?

I don’t think it’s a health issue so much as a system issue. And I think he fits very well into Chip Kelly’s offense. He won’t, usually, be required to make more than one read, he’ll be able to run the ball more frequently, and he still has a pretty good arm. He certainly struggles when asked to run a traditional NFL offense, but he just might find success running Chip Kelly’s offense.

That said, he now doesn’t have a top 3 defense, a top 5 offensive line, and a solid running game to make it easier on him like he did when he was finding success and kissing his biceps. I think he’ll do fine, and may even find statisical success, but I’m not sure it will make much difference in the 49ers record.

The Washington game was the last straw, but that had building for some time. Trestman had been trying to force a QB-centered passing game onto a team with Joe Flacco at quarterback. No matter how well Flacco played over 4 games in the 2012 postseason, that’s not going to work in the long term.

The thing in the Washington game that triggered the firing, I think, was abandoning the running game. The playcalling balance has been an issue for a long time, but the running game hadn’t been there since 2014. Trestman continued to be pass-heavy, though, despite Terence West having a pretty productive first half.
