I gotta admit, Rodgers was brilliant at the end there.
I’m glad they did (yes, I’m from Chicago), after that bullshit fucking unnecessary roughness call against them early on. With 1:15 left (or whatever it was) when the Cowboys went ahead, I was still confident the Packers would make the comeback, and they did.
I understand Rodgers is trying to make a statement about being clutch and everything, but I don’t know if my heart can take an entire season of this. Don’t forget that he was throwing into the sun the entire drive too. JerryWorld was absolutely designed for primetime games - afternoon games shouldn’t be scheduled there unless they fix the giant windows facing the sunset. Just watching it hurt my eyes.
Also, thank you, Nick Perry, for recovering the fumble on the final scramble drill. Fuck you for dropping it immediately instead of just falling over. Thank you for doing it in a manner that led to a lineman knocking Matthews the fuck out when he rolled over him.
I can’t decide if I’m just bad at picking games or if these last couple weeks have been more unpredictable than normal.
Meanwhile, lots of injuries this week. Seems to be an unusually high number of them this year.
2017 is the year everyone admitted they don’t know what’s going to happen in any single game.
Odd thing: there have been no blocked PATs so far this season. In 2015, when they first started the long PAT, there were a total of 12; last year, there were 19 – 1.6% of PATs were blocked. Has there been a rule change that makes blocking a PAT more difficult/risky?
Hugh Jackson is not head coach material. It sucks, since he was the most wanted candidate 2 years ago, but he just doesn’t do anything well as a head coach. But what can the Browns do? If they fire their staff 2 years into their tenure yet again, who’s going to come take the job? The absolutely horrible, talentless expansion team had a better record than 1-20, but we may be stuck with him anyway.
Maybe if he hired a proper offensive coordinator he might lighten his load enough to be better.
Yep:
If I were Mike Brown I would trade you Marvin Lewis for Hue straight up.
Sam Bradford looks horrible so far. At least two dropped would be interceptions, a couple missed receivers, and a safety that are his fault.
Trubisky looks pretty good on the move, it will be interesting to see how he develops. But, all in all, this is an ugly game so far.
Edited to add: I hate Gruden as an announcer.
I love NFL fans and media. Mitch Trubisky has a Glennonesque day of sub 50% completion rate, only 128 yards passing, and two turnovers, including an awful interception that may have cost them the game, yet there is optimism in Chicago and he’s lauded because his teammates “feel his presence”.
I’m not saying the kid can’t be great (I really think he could), or that he didn’t have some nice plays, but if you ignore that he’s the #2 pick in the draft and a rookie, that performance was bad. Sure it looked better with him running around, but performancewise, it was a big nothing.
I’m toying with the idea that the most important thing for fans and teams, isn’t wins, loses, or performances, but hope. Fans can handle poor performances if they have hope things will get better. Teams will mortgage their future drafts to grab a QB in the hope he’ll be good sometime down the road. As long as expectations are set low, whether it be for a rookie QB or a over the hill RB coming back from retirement, the performance is second to the hope the player brings.
I think it’s this hope that has given guys like Blake Bortles millions of dollars and continued starts in the league despite not being good at football. It’s why draft position more often matters who starts than actual performance. Hope is what sell tickets, gets press, and keeps jobs.
Just a theory, I’m still working on it.
FYI - Chiefs still undefeated at 5-0. Alex Smith for MVP? Not yet, but if he stays this good?
History has shown that it’s likely the QB of the team with the best record, so he has a chance (although it’s ridiculously early to talk about). Personally, I’d go with Kareem Hunt, though.
Hunt is awesome.
I’m not a Chiefs fan or anything but that kid looks special and I’d love to see him stay healthy and have a great career.
(I say this as a fan of a team where every RB after Marshawn left seems made of glass.)
Adrian Peterson traded to the Cardinals per my NFL app.
I’m a fan of neither the Bears nor the Vikings, but I was looking forward to an exciting end to that game, until the officials made a ticky-tack penalty call against the Bears, guaranteeing a game-winning Viking field goal as time expired. Seriously, for all the complaints about the NFL (anthem protests, too many commercials, what ever), this is the one that kills it for me. How do we get better officiating without ridiculously slowing the game down?
Also, I love Jay Gruden as an announcer. Never, ever understood the Gruden-hate.
Adrian Peterson to the Cardinals for an undisclosed draft pick. I wasn’t aware that Adrian Peterson played QB or on the offensive line.

David Johnson is hurt so maybe they’re panicking about the RB position? But Peterson is not only old (for a RB) but has been hurt this year. I don’t really get it either.
The only reason is can think of is just to throw Peterson out there as much as possible and try to open up the passing game. I’m not sure Peterson is really a workhorse back any longer, but he’d been wanting to get more touches.
