The early 70s. The Steelers were founded in the early thirties but never won a championship until the Superbowl era. In other words, they sucked pretty hard for the first 40 years of their existence.
About that…
Adams is a force who could be one of the best pass rushers in the league by this time next year. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been much of an effort guy thus far, and seemed to totally give up on this season. On a line where he won’t be facing constant double teams he might start showing up again straight away, as a third down rush specialist if nothing else. Plus, he’s only two years older than whoever they’d be drafting with that pick.
Awww… wassamatta, you can dish it out but you can’t take it?
Who dey? Who dey gonna watch dem Bengals? Apparently not too many.
Oh, and Pittsburgh lost virtually all of their steel mills and a little more than half of their population in my lifetime, so your crocodile tears don’t affect me in the least except for how sweet they taste.
I knew that, but was trying to keep things within a reasonable 20-30 year timeframe. No offense, Ellis. You’re the rational one in here, reigning me and…well, just ME, in.
Holy Crap! Giving away a 2nd Round pick for anything less than an impact starter seems like a a big waste to me. I know Gaines Adams was a coveted player coming out of the draft and still could develop into something special, but he hasn’t exactly been on the upswing in the last 2 seasons.
This is going to be a big shake up for the D Line, I wonder if this will have an immediate impact on the fates of Mark Anderson and Alex Brown or if Adams will be more of a project at the outset. People are speculating that this spells the end of Ogunleye’s career in Chicago being that this is the final year of his deal. Probably a decent presumption, and I suppose if you make the logical leap that with Ogunleye gone you’d need to draft a DE early in the draft to replace him then this might be a good way to spend your 2nd Rounder.
Time will tell, this is clearly a move for Marinelli. He loved the guy when he was in Detroit and wanted to draft him and now he’s got him. Hopefully he can mold the guy into a star in this system.
Oh…OK, then.
To hell with you, your trailer trash fans, your six Superbowl wins****, your fucking season this year, your future seasons, Whines Hard, Ben Rapelessburger, your entire franchise, your fanbase, and most certainly…YOU!
There, now we’re even.
He was on the upswing last year. This year… not so much.
Should be a much better situation for him here. Plenty of players around him to draw off blockers and a system that ought to resemble what he was running his first 2 years in the league.
Can the guy play in the cold?
ETA: If the guy can play, the price is right. About $1M per year until 2012, not too bad.
What are your preliminary thoughts on Bengals v Bears? Cedric rambles in anger, or no?
This week will be very telling. The Bengals facing a good offense, the Bears coming off a bye against a balanced attack. Both should be instructive. Benson doesn’t worry me a lick, the Bears play the run well and will bottle him up well enough. In contrast I’m not confident that Forte will do much of anything for us. I’ll probably come down to Special Teams and who’s secondary gives up the least. I like our odds but we need to play well.
Rescheduling a Sunday game seems a lot easier than rescheduling a Monday night game. Moving the Giants/Eagles game is a service to the fans and the poor cops who have to direct traffic. I mean it’s not like the Eagles and Phillies use the same stadium any more. Theoretically they could play at the same time. I can’t imagine the holy hell of 95 that would result from the combination of outgoing Eagles traffic and incoming Phillies WS traffic. I hope the Eagles have to do it! It would be even sweeter if the Phils were playing the Yankees. A nice NY/PH doubleheader.
Doesn’t really come up much in the NFC South, but for what it’s worth, the Buccaneers have won one game (2002 NFC Championship Game, IIRC) when temperature at kickoff was below 39 degrees- so nobody from this team can play in the cold.
On the other hand, he played his college ball at Clemson, and I assume it gets fairly cold in South Carolina.
It is. You expect 2nd rounders to 1) play, and 2) be cheap. How do you figure only $1M? Are the Bucs eating the rest? Awful lot for a player who would probably be getting released after the season.
Um, Whoosh?
It’s what’s being reported in the Chicago papers. Tampa presumably front loaded his contract and paid him a ton in the signing bonus. I’m sure the low salary is what makes the deal workable for the Bears, if he can start for us he’d easily be our cheapest D Lineman. I’m starting to like the move when I look at the numbers and consider that we wouldn’t have been able to draft a player of his caliber in 2010. He might be a bust for the 4th overall pick, but for say the 50th overall he’s just about right.
That’s how much his base salary is more or less for the rest of his contract. His deal was frontloaded, and the back end bonuses are escalators that Lawrence Taylor wouldn’t have hit.
The Bears have a good offense? That’s a first. They’re in the bottom half in passing (yards per game, yards per attempt), and in the bottom six in rushing. They score a lot of points, but that’s probably due to the being one of the top 3 teams in starting field position. That hasn’t exactly been a good offense so far.
Hey genius, the Bengals are playing the Texans.
And for kicks, you might want to check out this article about their passing efficiency. I’m not entirely sure how you can say with a straight face that an offense that scores a lot sucks, nor how you can fail to see that their yardage might be down because of that field position.
