NFL Week 6

Aaron Rodgers practiced today, though it’s not clear to me that he’s been cleared to play yet.

According to Mike McCarthy’s press conference yesterday, both Donald Lee and Clay Matthews may still be able to play this week.

Y’know, honestly (and perhaps much to Dio’s surprise), that’s one place I don’t place much (if any) blame. Yes, the Packers have gotten a lot of penalties (especially in the Bears game), but, they did their best (worst?) to earn those flags.

Remember Cutler practiced on Wednesday prior to last weeks game.

Huh, I didn’t recall that. Well, heck. :stuck_out_tongue:

With all those issues, Greg Jennings was barely looked at last week. Why was that?

Update: Rodgers has now, indeed, been cleared to play.

No idea, but from what I’ve read, Jennings wasn’t too happy about it. I have to expect that they’ll be going to him more now, with Finley (and possibly Lee) out.

Battle of the Bay this week. 49ers, being the better team despite the records, will win.

:dubious:

I challenge your assertion that they are the better team. They SHOULD be the better team but they can’t get it together. 0-6 for the 9ers.

Agreed. The Raiders have a better quarterback and and better tandem of running backs. Gore is the best of the group but he’s got to carry the load by himself and its obvious that he wears down as the game progresses. The Raiders secondary is MILES better than the 49ers as is their pass rush. The Niners have a better linebacking core and are generally a better tackling team and they have an edge at O line and in pass catchers but by no means are they clearly a “better team”.

In fact there’s no reason they “should be” a better team. The Raiders are loaded with top draft picks and have more Pro Bowl caliber veterans on defense (2) than the Niners (1). The Raiders shockingly have more continuity in their coaching staff even! I think the Raiders win this game and the Niners think long and hard about firing Singletary. The only chance the Niners have is if the new offensive scheme allows Crabtree and Davis to go off somehow, but with Alex Smith that’s a stretch.

The Niners are also loaded with top draft picks, and none of them are Darius Heyward-Bey.

You say that as if the two of them didn’t have 100+ yards and a touchdown apiece last week.

Despite being a decades-long Bears fan, I almost regret the thought of them beating Seattle. Should they, legions of Bears fans (at least those who for years have sipped the Kool-Aid) will rise up and temporarily forget the fact that the team is very questionable at best. Sadly, as has been the case for many years, the Halas family has cheaped out their QB and head coach. Hope springs eternal, however, that ownership will change. Are you listening, Rush?

W/regard to San Diego, Vincent Jackson Is back. Of course, no one knows exactly how to define “back.” Can’t imagine he’ll get much playing time. Meanwhile, everyone here in SD is aghast at the miserable play of the special teams. Heads need to roll here.

Back how? I know the NFLPA told him to report, but did he?

Can’t say for sure. Local press is simply reporting he’s “back.” Everyone is quiet.

I heard he wasn’t coming back until the 31st (the last day he can show up and still get credit for playing the season so he can be an unrestricted free agent next year), and not able to start playing until 11/14.

Jackson isn’t back. The NFLPA recommended that he come back by week 12 in order to accrue 6 games of play to qualify for a additional year of service. He chasn’t said what his plan is, and if he takes their advice he’s still 6 weeks away from coming back.

As for you comment about the Bears…what!!! The Bears hopefully will put away the Seahawks at home this week, but I don’t think there’s a single Bears fan who’s anything less than realistic about this team. If anything they are wildly underrated here in Chicago. The papers pretty much rip the team and management every day and under performing players like Tommie Harris, Chris Harris, Chris Williams and Olin Kruetz catch intense heat on a regular basis. Lovie is pretty much despised here and is only overshadowed my the distaste for Jerry and the McCaskeys.

I agree that another win, and looking at the Bears schedule 9-1 is a pretty realistic expectation for a start, will go a long ways towards ensuring another season under Lovie and Jerry which would be a disaster. However, the one thing the Bears haven’t done is “cheap out” on QB and Coach. Lovie is one of the leagues highest paid head coaches and singed a long term deal following the Super Bowl. They are paying high prices for 3 other former head coaches to be assistants and Jerry Angelo is one of the leagues highest paid GMs. The Bears are somewhat unique in that they also pay an Team President in Ted Phillips. If anything this organization is wildly over paid and top heavy. As for the QB, Jay Cutler got a big contract extension last season that pays him over $10M per season and they gave up lots of picks for him. Cheap is not applicable to this Bears team at the QB position. Hell, even Todd Collins cost them $1M to bring in which is a pretty steep price for a 3rd string QB. They spent a draft pick on a developmental QB in Lefevour this draft too, something they rarely did in the past and if not for the Begnals they’d have 4 QBs on the roster for a change.

And who the hell is Rush? Rush Limbaugh? Are you fucking high? Not that it matters since the McCaskey’s are unlikely to ever sell the team under any circumstances, it’s not like anyone can force them to sell and they are a founding family of the NFL. For all the grief they get they’ve been pretty good owners since Mike McCaskey was removed from his role as President. They spend money and keep our talent happy and in town. They are often too loyal but in teh grand scheme of things that’s a fault I can tolerate. The issue with the Bears are in the talent evaluation and development departments and the McCaskeys need to make a change there. Eating Jerry and Lovie’s contracts last season would have been the smart move I think but I’m not sure cheapness was at the root of that problem, it was simply a by-product of misplaced loyalty and lack of accountability.

What a pig of a week this has been. The Bears look like a complete joke. Embarrassing really. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only guy disgusted with his team today.

The only reason I’m not disgusted with my team today is that they’re in a bye week. Otherwise, I’m sure I would be watching my beloved Panthers continue their long-term residence in Sucktown.

Thank you Devin Hester! We have a shot. Their Punter looks to be out too, so if we can stop them this drive we’ll probably get excellent field position.
