NFL Week 6

I’m surprised they didn’t look a little more closely at that second one; it really looked like he was on the ground, on top of the ball, and moved an arm to a position where he possessed it. If I didn’t hate everything Manning, I might even get a bit worked up over it.

Okay, this is getting painful to watch. Can’t get a stop on third and long, finally get a turnover and take a stupid penalty at the end of it…

“He tripped over the 45 yard line!”

As bad as Gruden is, I love Tirico.

So, what does Denver have to do to get receivers that can actually either hang onto the ball or stay on their feet after a long completion? Seriously, this is painful.

Second that. Tirico has gotten pretty good over the last couple years. Too bad Gruden means insta-mute.

That was the pussiest attempt at a tackle I’ve ever seen, Peyton. Kickers tackle better than that. My five year old girl tackles harder.

If I were Peyton’s coach, I’d tell him that if he threw an interception, he should immediately run to the nearest locker room, leave the stadium, get into a limo and go to Fort Knox until the play has been whistled dead for half an hour.

Play confirmed. We got a game.

Preposterous offensive pass interference call there. Let 'em play. Christ.

Can’t believe Denver dumped Tebow for this Manning character. What were they thinking?

There’s going to be some stunned people who went to bed early when they read the paper tomorrow morning.

Or those us us just checking in after checking out of a 24-0 halftime lead by the Bolts.

That said…HOLY SHIT!!

Wow, I’m completely opposite. I like what Gruden brings. Tirico, on the other hand, I find boring. Then there was that very unfavorable story about Tirico in ESPN: An Uncensored History that has probably impacted my view of him.

the Eagles fired “Defensive Coordinator” Juan Castillo… 10 more games, and Andy is next…

31st ranked offense, 10th ranked defense… surely the DC is to blame!

Obviously, when the defense has a lot of short fields to protect due to all the QB fumbles and interceptions, the DC has to go. Makes perfect sense. Next up: Reid lobbying for Mike Vick for MVP.

I remember before the 2011 season, when the Eagles were coming off a 10-6 season and a loss (on a last drive killing interception by Vick) to the Packers in the Wild Card. They fired their DC, D line coach, and lost their secondary coach and linebackers coach. They committed to Michael Vick, shipped off Kevin Kolb, and set about a free agency period that was, at the time, one of the most heralded moves in NFL history.

They signed the consensus #1 Free Agent and 3 time Pro Bowler, Nnamdi Asamugha. They signed Pro Bowler Jason Babin. They signed Pro Bowler Ronnie Brown. They signed Cullen Jenkins. They signed Evan Mathis. They signed Vince Young. They got Dominique Rodgers Cromartie in trade for Kolb. They made the biggest splash in NFL offseason that I could remember.

I remember the “Dream Team” hype. Hell, I even bought into it a little bit (although I was, and remain, convinced Michael Vick will never win a Super Bowl as a starter).

Then the games were played and they failed to make the playoffs for the first time in 4 years.

And now they’re 3-3, and looking like a team that is imploding.

I’ve never given the whole “chemistry” thing much play in the NFL world, but I wonder if that’s the deal in Philly. Is it really that hard to deal with all the egos, all the expectations? What is the lesson to learn from the start of this season? That you can’t buy championships in free agency? Or that coaches and coordinators are much more important than we think?

The Eagles certainly have the talent to turn this thing around and make a run into the playoffs, so don’t count them out. But every week I think the finger pointing, the blaming the coaches, and the continued turnovers by Vick are killing this team. Should be interesting to watch.

I think you’re overthinking it a bit. Vick has thrown 8 picks and fumbled 9 times in 6 games (5 lost). You really don’t need to look beyond that.

That’s a huge chunk of it, but their defense collapses too. Sunday, they went into the 4th quarter with a 10 point lead and they couldn’t protect it, so I don’t think that’s all there is to these games.

Every unit will have an off day. The Texans defense collapsed this last Sunday, too. The Packers gave up an 18 point lead the week before. The Ravens let the Titans into the game, etc.

The Eagles defense has, with the exception of a few drives, been keeping the team in a lot of close games so far, while Vick is already double digits in turning the ball over.

It seems like setting two very different bars for performance, especially where firing the DC is concerned.
