I can’t stop saying “LA Clippers” in my head when I see LAC.
Also, isn’t it pretty weird that the LAC @ JAX game is a late game? Jacksonville is east coast, so that’s not a reason. And if they’re trying to cultivate an LA fan base for the Clippers or Chargers, wouldn’t they want them on their own separate time apart from the Rams so both games could be watched by the locals?
I guess they figure being on at 10am PST is worse than being up against the other LA team.
Yesterday was a board game day at my local game group and I was looking forward to writing up a report during the lulls/commercials during the Packer game. Now I am leaning toward not even watching.
If I didn’t have the report to write up I’d use the opportunity to catch up on my DVR queue.
Well, I stopped right after the 3 and out after in the interception.
Ok, I checked again and another 3 and out after a TD – think the Pack is doing better if I don’t watch…
It was not so much how this game was going, but the prospects for the rest of the season that caused me to tune out. Fair Weather Fan? Perhaps so. Note that I don’t even watch if the Pack isn’t playing (I might catch a Badger game if I am REALLY bored, though I most likely will be watching Netflix instead)
Damn, if Denver’s defense is having an off day, they don’t have a chance. Siemian is just not a good quarterback.
And going back to Thursday’s game, I don’t get to see Carolina play very often but every time I do they always lose, badly. I really don’t understand how they beat anyone with that offense, which as far as I can tell comprises entirely of: throw a 40-yard incompletion (or interception), check down pass for no gain, throw another 40-yard incompletion (or interception), punt, repeat.
That happened in the Seahawks-Rams just last week. The replay official said that he lost control of the ball before stepping on the sideline and the ball hit the pylon, making it a touchback. The call was exacto-knife close.
What would you call it? Perhaps a “rouge” point for the D? Rouge points in the CFL are pretty amusing; I think it would be great to institute rouge points in some form in the NFL, but they would have to adjust kick coverage rules to make run-backs less brutal.
Saying a fumble into the end zone and out of bounds is stupid, I support that opinion, but like it or not that’s what the rule is. If you lose control before it crosses the pylon and/or goal line it’s not a score, and if you fail to recover it then it’s a turnover.
I’m curious what else should be done. Maybe the ball is kept but returned to the spot it was fumbled?
Yes, that’s the rule, but I doubt it will be next year. Agreed that a ball fumbled into the end zone and not recovered in-bounds will be dead at the spot of the fumble, and that a fumble recovered by the fumbling player with no one else gaining possession in the meantime will be treated as if it didn’t happen.
Weird play, but that’s how you get picayune rules.
Everywhere else on the field a fumble out of bounds is given back to the fumbling team. Even when it’s a safety this principle holds. Returning it to the fumbled spot seems perfectly rational to me. That also goes along with the anti-fumble-rooskie rule about the offense recovering but not advancing a fumble.
I think the end zone fumble rule is a good one – it encourages ball security around the end zones, which is always a good idea. Teams should be even more careful handling the ball near both end zones.
The Saints Lions game was totally nuts. Saints had 3 defensive TDs – Lions had a punt return and another defensive TD. Plus lots of offensive big plays.
