NFL Week 7

And some bye-week humor at the expense of Philly.

Boy, the Raiders just plain suck ass, don’t they?

Buccaneers got screwed by a stupid rule. A receiver can reestablish inbounds if the QB doesn’t leave the pocket, but otherwise he can’t. WTF.

Wayne mostly lines up on the left because he’s left handed and is more comfortable catching passes moving that way*. It’s not a deliberate move by the Colts.

*He mentioned it in an interview on Sunday Countdown years ago, IIRC.

The officiating in that game was…less than distinguished. Saints had a potential pick-6 nullfied on a bad call, and lost the challenge despite the replay showing Harper caught the ball cleanly.

Still, a win is a win, and I’ll take it. The Saints now have a better record than my fantasy team.

Meh. The replay suggested he caught it cleanly. It definitely looked like it hit the ground at game speed and it was a “not indisputable” deal in slow motion.

Your defense is fucking terrible, though. Made Josh Freeman look like Peyton circa 2003.

Eli Manning doesn’t know the meaning of the word pressure. (Of course, when you watch his interviews it seems like there’s a* whole bunch* of words he doesn’t understand…but still, that guy is something else.)

Speaking as a Giants fan, I agree.

That said, RGIII is everything he was touted as. He has all the athleticism of a Vick PLUS a good head on his shoulders. He’s going to make winning the NFC East tough for years to come.

Wow the Jets and the Pats game is exciting. 26-26

The announcer in the NYJ/NE game didn’t know who won. Was going on about how if the call holds up (and the Pats win) how it would be a shocker because the biggest underdog that day would win. And then he said “The New York Jets are in first place in the division!” at the end.

Man, there were a bunch of ticky tack penalties in the Giants’ favor that game. Phantom offsides on the opening kickoff, a leg whip that was correct by the letter of the rule but give me a break, plus the Redskins get a TD taken off the board from a penalty I forget but at the time I thought was iffy at best.

Not a great day for Eli; even my confidence in him was shaken when they lined up for that last drive. Then he shut my doubts up but good, heh.

No they didn’t get screwed at all, you misunderstood what the announcers were saying. First and foremost, if you go out of bounds, no matter how much you re-establish yourself back in-bounds you cannot be the first person to touch the ball, period. In every case. No exceptions. Penalty, every time.

What the announcers were explaining is that the receiver only went out of bounds (making him inelgible to catch the ball) because he was pushed out. Normally this would be pass interference, but because the QB had scrambled outside of the poclet, pass interference rules are relaxed because the QB could conceivably run the ball and you’re allowed to block downfield on running plays. That’s why there was no pass interference.

But it was absolutely the correct call that he wasn’t allowed to catch the ball once he set foot outside the back of the endzone. (Unless, of course, the ball was tipped in mid-air, making him not the first guy to touch it.)

Love to see trick plays - even when they don’t work! (This one should have - the ball was catch-able.)

Hate to see the big INT! Ben threw into a whole crowd of orange and black!

My boys aren’t looking good… the D hasn’t shown up tonight. :frowning:

Holy Shit, some seriously dropped potential receptions and INT’s by both teams. 14-14 at the half. GO BENGALS!

Sorry to disappoint you, there. Amending it to “the Raiders’ offense” or even just “Carson Palmer” would be okay with me.

The odd thing is how they made both Atlanta and Jacksonville looked equally as tough to beat. Either one could have gone the other way.

Wow. Gotta do some research and wonder from where the sports medias obsession with Cam Newton is coming from. Did he do something great?

The pass hadn’t been thrown yet when he re-established, so the QB was the first guy to touch it.

It doesn’t work like that.

Balls. It was MY D that didn’t show up last night. Hardly any pressure on Ben. And way to stop the run in the second half Bengals.

Fuck…3-4. Bengals really needed that one with the Ravens losing yesterday.

The first half of last night’s game was played the way the Steelers have played this whole season. Lots of talent, tons of stupid mistakes. The second half (and last 2 minutes of the first), they finally played the way they SHOULD. Good defense, eliminate the penalties and drops, and solid blocking and power running to go with Ben’s performance. Ben has been awesome this year so far, but mistakes have killed them. If the Steelers keep playing the rest of this season like they did the second half last night, they will be a force. Problem is, I don’t know if they can.

Patriots sneak out a win, for which I am extremely happy - loved to see the rollercoaster of emotion that asshole Rex Ryan went on. That said, they do not look good. The defense is bad and bordering on horrible - each week they make mediocre to lousy quarterbacks look like superstars. And really, you can’t cover Jeremy Kerley, guys?? Pathetic. They had been generating some pass rush earlier in the year, but recently very little, and that will kill you when your secondary is as bad as ours is. They simply cannot close out these games even with big leads and it is infuriating to watch.

At the same time, the offense is inconsistent and clearly not as potent as it was last year and should be with the talent they’ve got. Way too many three and outs, way too many drives that generate yards and no points.

This is simply not a dominant team anymore.
