Huh, firing their DC didn’t seem to improve their offense as much as they’d hoped.
The Browns game had all the makings of a last minute 2 point loss, I was 90% sure of it. And then they won. Weird.
Now I am vaguely rooting for the Ain’ts because I am a sick and evil bastard who will find it amusing to see the AFC west have four teams with losing records. Drew Brees, was he not a Charger some years ago?
McGahee has to be one of the best 31 year old backs of all time, he’s been looking great this year.
Yes, Brees was a Charger a few years ago.
And Ouch. My poor Saints had their asses handed to them in Denver. The defense is just pitiful. Only bright spot in the game for me was that TD in garbage time to Graham clinched the win for my fantasy team this week.
Trent Richardson has crazy ball security. He’s locked onto that thing like an alligator snapped onto prey. There was a point late in the game where the ball was muddy and slippery and this DB got both his arms around the ball and pulled with all his might and the ball didn’t even budge. He’s got a shot at setting some of those number of carries without a fumble type records.
As a Browns fan, I’d think you would know better than to hex things like that.
If he were a baseball player the steroid accusations would be through the roof. But, it’s football, where nobody cares about PEDs.
ETA: To be clear, I am not accusing McGahee of anything, I’m just saying we’ve seen this movie many times before in baseball where an older guy comes out of nowhere and has a great season. I actually like McGahee, though.
He didn’t come “out of nowhere”. He ran for 1200 yards at a 4.8 clip last season; he’s averaging less than that this season. McGahee is unlike most 31-year-old stud running backs in that he missed his entire rookie season, and lost his starting job in Baltimore, so he doesn’t have many carries on his body.
Man those things were ugly. I can’t believe people wore stuff like that at one time.
It was the only way the players could see each other through the choking cloud of smoke that covered Pittsburgh until about 1982.
Watching the game last night reminded me that I’ve heard or seen Al Michaels referred to as “the late Al Michaels.” Seems like I’ve heard it more than once, too. What’s up with that?
The real Al Michaels died a few years back, he’s been a simulation since. Pretty incredible.
Man, those throwback unis that the Steelers had yesterday were absolutely epic in their gawd-awfulness. About the only thing that could have made them worse would have been if a bunch of the guys were using those pink breast cancer awareness accessories with them. I didn’t notice any of those in the highlights I saw, but that would have been a whole new level…
Floyd and Witten, one handed catches of the week.
Alex Smith 18/19? Arizona has fallen apart in October, what did I miss, what did they break?
Nothing - they’re just not as good as some of those games suggest. The defence had an off night last night but is still pretty decent. The offense though has a porous line, no running backs and, crucially, two mediocre to poor QBs running it. Kolb is probably better than Skelton and is injured but neither inspire confidence.
As a fan I was delighted with the start. Now I’m wondering how far we need to tank to get a decent OT in the 1st round of the draft and where we might be able to get a decent QB from. As ever, I feel slightly sorry (as much as possible for a multi-millionaire) for Larry Fitzgerald. He deserves to be on a contender. They could trade him for some pieces to help out but his cap number is pretty large, so it might not work out. Everyone would stand a chance of being a winner though - if I was him, I’d be interested in it - Arizona are wasting his prime.
Fitzgerald knew what he was getting into. Besides, he got to play with Kurt Warner for a couple of years.
As an aside, I have no clue why Ken Whisenhunt still has a job. He basically lucked into Warner (he didn’t even want to start him), who all but single-handedly led them to the only success Whisenhunt has had in Arizona. And the time before Warner and after Warner, has been marked by a desolate wasteland of very bad QB play. For an offensive minded coach, his offenses have been pretty damn terrible.
I’d essentially agree with this. He seems to have no handle whatsoever on talent on the offensive side of the ball. Some of the picks they have made in his time on the defensive side of the ball have been pretty smart (Patrick Peterson is a no brainer but he picked up Campbell and Washington in later rounds and used a 4th round pick on O’Brien Schofield when he had an ACL injury, positing that he’d be good when he came back - and Schofield has been better than the guys he replaced, so there was some value there) but he has no clue about QB talent whatsoever.
I’d also lump Russ Grimm in amongst this. OK, if you don’t have any talent, coachin the OL has to be a thankless task - but some of those guys have been on the team for 2 oe 3 years and every year the OL sucks with no sign of improvement. WTF is Grimm teaching them?
