NHL 103 (2019/2020 season) pre-season thread

not Nik’s fault players keep skating with their heads down.

No kidding, and with players like Taylor Hall (who’s bad with skating with his head down), I’m sure there will be more Kronwalling in the future.

oh, ok, I didn’t realize the league was supposed to anoint potential superstars as “untouchable.”

that’ll really make the game great.

 I’m not implying that, nor trying to pass judgement in any way. Obviously just a perfectly neutral (actually leaning to quite appreciative) observation.

:dubious:

Shea Theodore won’t be suiting up for the Knights for a bit as he recovers from testicular cancer.

The team, the game and the fans will still be here, Mr. Theodore; take your time and heal.

And from reading that article, the team really seems like a great group of people. Not just the players, but the entire organization.

What a great article, Snowboarder Bo. Thanks for linking to it. I hope Mr. Theodore’s good luck continues.

I don’t recall this many high quality RFAs still unsigned on training camp day one (which is basically medical):

Mitch Marner
Matthew Tkachuk
Charlie McAvoy
Brayden Point
Mikko Rantinen
Patrik Laine
Kyle Connor
Brock Boeser
Ivan Proverov

The agents couldn’t care less if their clients miss TC - and hell, part of the season - in order to get a price they want. William Nylander last season was a unfortunate example of this.

You’re welcome. At the start of the Knight’s 3rd season, I am super-impressed by the lack of ego and the excess of goodwill that our players seem to have. I mean, I know it’s hockey and not basketball or the NFL, but the Knights were very fortunate to amass so many players who come across as good-natured, positive-outlook people. It’s still a competitive sport, but thus far the Knights have avoided having any jerks on the team. I don’t think it’s all luck, tho: I give a lot of credit to team management for their draft and trade choices, as I presume that “non-jerkishness” is a factor they consider when selecting players.

I’ve never been to any other team’s hockey practices, but Knight’s practices are like huge parties. We’ve sung Happy Birthday to players and coaches. We’ve had them clown around for us, specifically for the crowd, during practices. I’ve seen Nate Schmidt get mildly reprimanded for staying on the ice to talk to kids when he was supposed to be starting a new drill. They all just seem like genuinely nice people.

So yeah, we all hope that Mr. Theodore’s recovery continues unabated and he’s back on the ice doing what he loves ASAP.

Thanks for wishing him well!

We are less than 48 hours from NHL pre-season hockey! WOOT!

The Toronto Maple Leafs and star forward Mitch Marner have agreed on a six-year, $65.358 million contract extension, according to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger.

The deal has an average annual value of $10.893 million.

ETA: Sooooo relieved!

Indeed, and Dallas actually gets two preseason broadcasts!

But zero cap space, even after those $13mil in LTIR contracts get taken off.

Yeah, so? They can afford it.

True. I’m just bitter no one is paying me $13mil to not play hockey.

Me too! I don’t play hockey for free right now, but I’m willing to listen to any offers to take my not playing hockey to the next level! I’m passionate about this, and dedicated, and I know I could not play hockey with the best of them!

I’m Brian, and so’s my wife!

hey, at least they’re not spending 5-6 million a year each on guys like Abdelkader, Nielsen, Ericsson, and DeKeyser.

(best thing I heard about what led to Ken Holland being kicked upstairs- “How can a team be in the middle of a rebuild but bumped up against the salary cap?”)

Capitals’ Evgeny Kuznetsov suspended 3 games by NHL
