NHL 2014-2015 Season: The Thread

STL line…just sayin!!

if you don’t understand, Google it.

GO BLUES

That is the LAST time I turn off the tv right after a “loss”. I feel like punching myself in the face. Holy shit, I just watched it on youtube now – that was awesome!

(Any Rangers fans here for me to gloat at?)

I would swear that Bettman said ‘Corporate’ Nathan Carrillo in his speech tonight.

Awe crap. Pat Quinn died.

Tikhonov died as well.

Oh wow. That’s even huger.

I recall a Canada Cup game when the audience did “the wave” and Tikhonov was extremely amused by it. I never could have imagined Russians doing “the wave” back then. Actually I still can’t imagine it.

:frowning:

Islanders, baby!

And on this day in 1917, The National Hockey League was formed.

Marc-Andre Fleury gets 300 wins! He’s the 3rd youngest goalie to do so (behind Martin Brodeur and Terry Sawchuk), AND the 3rd FASTEST behind Jaques Plante and Andy Moog. Flower Power, baby! Suck it, Fleury haters!

I got nothin’ against Fleury.

A lot of goalies seem to find their groove in their late 20s, early 30s.

At age 29 he could dominate for another 5, 6, 7 years.

A lot of Pens fans seem to enjoy bashing the guy, believe it or not.

Not many dopers seem to visit this thread, but I’m interested in something. It looks like polls aren’t available in this forum.

What do you think of fighting in hockey? I might start a poll in IMHO but for the interim, what are your feelings?

Personally, I hate it. Fuck what Don Cherry says about protection of franchise players and allowing a vent in lieu of more egregious penalties. I want to see fighting gone from the NHL. I don’t have statistics, but I know from being a fan that fighting is way down and continues to decline. (And Olympic hockey is marvellous for this reason, not to mention the larger ice.)

What should the NHL do about fighting?

Honestly? I love it. A good, honest fight, that is, not the sucker punches or tripping from behind. (And yes, I know, Matt Cooke. I loved the guy, but damn) The funny thing too is that some of the toughest, hardest fighters are usually the nicest guys in the league! (Gordie Howe, Georges Laroque, Mike Rupp, Gary Roberts, Eric Godard, etc).

Dallas Stars started the 2nd period down 3-0 to the Minnesota Wild. They’ve tied it up, great game.

Senators lost to the Panthers. All is right in my universe.

Let it die a nautral death. I like a good fightt, but i don’t miss it when the Canes play a sold 60(like tonight).

Fighting is ridiculous and should be done away with. It IS down - a lot - and vanishes in the playoff, so it can hardly be necessary.

It does nothing to protect star players, and never has.

The Senators are just so, so bad this year. They fluke their way to a good record early in the season on the back of incredible goaltending, but it’s catching up with them big time now. I think that the fundamental problem is that they have too many players playing at a level higher than their ability right now: Turris isn’t a #1 centre, Cowen isn’t a top-pairing defenceman, Phillips is really only a #6 defenceman now due to his age, Chiasson is a third-line player, etc.

You know what the team could really use right now? An undisputed #1 centre. I wonder how you find guys like that? :smack:

If I want to watch a fight, there’s plenty of MMA on TV. Fighting adds nothing to my enjoyment of the game, and I’d rather see it gone altogether. It does seem to be dying out as noted above, and I don’t think too many teams are using valuable roster spots on goons just for that purpose anymore. The best thing that the league can do to keep it in check is to A) impose stiff fines and suspensions for fighting and B) seriously crack down on cheap shots that make teams feel like they have to retaliate with stiff fines and suspensions.
