Watching highlights of Calgary-Detroit from last night.
Someone threw an octopus on the ice. Note, they are in Calgary. Is this a thing there or was that a Red Wing fan? I saw a ton of them in the crowd. Growing up in Detroit, I thought that was a Red Wing thing.
Also…uh, didn’t they implement a penalty to the team if someone does that? I thought that octopus stuff stopped.
Hartman did something similar last year to Cole Perfetti.
Generally, the rule is that there is a penalty if the game is delayed. It was mainly to stop Florida fans throwing rats onto the ice after every damn goal. In Detroit, octopi still end up on the ice but it happens before the game so it isn’t really an issue. Did the octopus in Calgary hit the ice during the game? I guess that perhaps they won’t call a penalty on a one-off situation.

Like the “wha, me?” look on his face when they announced the penalty, and then made the most feeble show of looking at the replay. 
“Hmph, let’s see this.”

I like to see him square off sometime with JT Miller, who’s often known to get quite chippy with face-offs.

Well, Hartman got a 10 game suspension for that idiocy. I would have rather it been for the remainder of the season considering his history, but they don’t ask me.
Ovechkin is now 17 behind the Great One after 2 goals in his last 2 games. Note I was a huge fan of the latter in the 80’s. At some point in the late 80’s Wayne made the deliberate choice to become more of a playmaker than a goal scorer: if the NHL endures for centuries his assists record will almost certainly never be approached, but if he had kept taking the shots himself tho I am sure the goal record would currently be beyond even AO’s reach.
Don’t forget the $488k penalty. That’s not nothing.

If Ovechkin had played during the same goal-happy era that Gretzky did, Ovechkin would have held the record, not Gretzky.
Red Wings look amazing. 7 in a row and something like 15-4 over the past 19 games.

Yeah, it’s quite a turn around for them. Happy to see it happen, glad they’re in the Eastern conference.
The Eastern wild card spots are still tight. Quite an entertaining competition, to be honest.

Just hate pausing the season, most of the players getting two weeks off, and then picking it back up.
Ehh, it seems like it will be way more exciting than the all-star convention it’s replacing.

True, I haven’t watched an NHL all star game in years, so I guess this is slightly better.
The mega trades in the NBA and 4 nations will at least give me time to catch up on some reading and films, plus pitchers and catchers report this week!
