Tonight — Go Sharks!! Go Pavs!!

Sharks not ruling out Joe Pavelski’s return vs. AvalancheJoe Pavelski could return before Round 3

Hall of famer Red Kelly dead at 91. I don’t think I ever saw him play, but he did coach the Leafs for a bit in the late 70s or early 80s.

From Wikipedia, Red Kelly played on more Stanley Cup winning teams (eight) than any player who never played for the Montreal Canadiens, and is the only player to have never played for the Canadiens to be part of two of the nine dynasties* recognized by the National Hockey League (NHL) in its history.

    • the nine dynasties are:
1919-1927 Ottawa Senators: 4 Stanley Cups
1946-1951 Toronto Maple Leafs: 4 Stanley Cups
1949-1955 Detroit Red Wings: 4 Stanley Cups ++
1955-1960 Montreal Canadiens: 5 Stanley Cups
1962-1967 Toronto Maple Leafs: 4 Stanley Cups ++
1964-1969 Montreal Canadiens: 4 Stanley Cups
1975-1979 Montreal Canadiens: 4 Stanley Cups
1980-1984 New York Islanders: 4 Stanley Cups
1983-1990 Edmonton Oilers: 5 Stanley Cups

++ - Red Kelly was a part of these dynasties

Very impressive. R.I.P., Red Kelly.

An article I saw said he played defense for Detroit and switched to center with Toronto.

Cool.

Perhaps similarly, in the old days of the NFL it wasn’t uncommon to play both ways. There was one season where Sam Baugh (known mostly as a QB) threw the most TD passes, intercepted the most passes as a DB, and had the highest punting yardage. I think that was in the 1940s. “Slingin’ Sammy” Baugh played for the Redskins.

Here is a VERY interesting article on Red Kelly.

I hope you read it.

I liked the article very much. Thanks for posting it.

Thanks for posting this; it was excellent. RIP Mr. Kelly; you done good.

Very nice article. Thank you Leaffan.

Carolina sweeps the Islanders and heads to the conference finals. I’m hoping that all 4 wild cards make it to the conference finals.

Condolences to RitterSport.

What about Tuukka Rask for Boston last night? He was amazing.

Hoping for a Hurricanes - Bruins series. And that all the injured Hurricanes are recovered by then. Rask vs Mrzak.

Ha! Karma’s a bitch, isn’t it? (Yes, I’m going to gloat)

The Penguins too. :frowning:

I couldn’t even watch the third period. How embarrassing! I was all in for Trotz to get the Jack Adams trophy, but now I’m thinking the Blues coach will probably get it. Definitely not the Lightning coach!

So, the Islanders have now joined two exclusive clubs in the NHL – one of only 4 teams to come back from a 3-0 deficit and one of only 4 (maybe 5?) teams to sweep in the first round and get swept in the second round. Yay.

I’ll root for whoever makes it out of the eastern conference, I guess. Carolina vs Blue Jackets in the Conference Finals would practically put the NHL out of business, though.

I was happy for Carolina, but sorry for your loss, RitterSport.

Except for one small brain fart, Bishop was outstanding last night. The Stars got goals from 2 guys who don’t score too often and that was enough. I think they are in a good position to close out the series tomorrow. Of course, I wouldn’t be too surprised if it does go to game 7.

Is it just me or if you put a mustache on Berube wouldn’t he look a lot like Quenneville?

To Me he looks kinda like Ed O’Neil

LGB…

Go Sharks! What a game!

Bishop was down, obviously injured and in terrible pain, and they kept on playing!?! I’ve watched explanations of the rule that allowed it, but it seems terribly unfair to me. Goals 3 and 4 never should have happened.

Goal 3, maybe. Although I have seen play continue when other players are down, so why not a goalie? No reason not to allow goal 4 though, that was Bishop’s (or the coach’s) decision to stay in the game. As it is, those two goals didn’t matter anyway, and it’s back to St Louis for game 7.

My gripe is, quit showing that damn replay over and over! It’s hard enough watching it the first time, don’t keep showing it!

Skaters different from goalie. Goalie injury is an empty net situation the team did not choose.

Goal 4 shouldn’t have happened, because Bishop should have been pulled. People in pain and shock can’t make reasonable decisions.

But, oh, well, an exciting game seven.
