It was cool seeing the game tonight and seeing her - midway through the first period - meekly standing up and waving to acknowledge an announced $10,000 gift from both teams to help with her medical studies. Sitting back down, she had that totally surprised / embarrassed / OMG look. Saw a brief video of her and the trainer meeting up and hugging just before the game, and I believe the Canucks arranged a dinner with them, along with their SOs.
If only all opposing fans were that magnanimous! And wearing one very funky jester’s / holiday cap…
After tonight’s decisive 5-2 win over the hapless Kracken, the Canucks have been the
best team in the NHL since Nov. 29 with a 10-1-1 record, but they had the third worst win/loss record up until then, and it looks like they’ve barely made much headway up the standings, because of that. By about game 15 or so under a new coach - here with Bruce Boudreau - a team will start to show whether they were in the flushes of a temporary honeymoon, or showing at least some signs of consistency, and in play-off contention. If their goalie Thatcher Demko stays as soild as he’s been lately (and should remain - he underperformed earlier) then I’m confident they’ll eventually scramble their way into clinching a play-off spot, and maybe even go a round or two into the play-offs.
(Heh, until they end up with the Knights, especially if Echiel and Patches are fully back in action from their surgeries, which is a definite with the latter; the former - meeehhhh…)
