NHL February 2018

Apologies to dalej42 for starting the thread before he did, but we already have games over and I wanted to crow about beating the Jets tonight because if the Flames can hang on for another 20 minutes, I think the Knights retake the top spot.

so much for that idea

…furshlugginer Minnesotans potrzebie…

Good game between the Caps and VGK today. Most of the VGK fans sitting near me were wearing Fleury-Pens jerseys.

I’m guessing they’re actual Pens fans. We still see him as one of our own. (Tuesday is going to be INSANE.)

Given the way that things are shaking out in the Campbell conference, I think that there will be a call to change the way the wild card system works.

Still reeling from last weekend’s goalie interference hornswoggle.

Here DeBrusk (son of crying commentator when he scores) makes a curling rock out of Allen, and here James Neal breaks his stick over Hellebuck’s mask.

Both goals counted.
I am completely fucking befuddled - as much as I was over a nearly 11-minute review (last year, I think it was a St. Louis game), of an obvious off-side that they ruled onside. An insignificant call (and obvious one) that took them 11 minutes to get wrong.

I thought both of those goals were good, but I thought the Boston one was a little more questionable than the Las Vegas one, and I could see how fans would want the coach to challenge each.

Holy GOALIE, Batman!

I have never seen such an excoriating quote from a professional athlete than what the Canuck’s goalie offered the other night after their predictably crappy loss to the Canes.

Goalie Jakob Markstrom: “I’m not good enough and we have a lot lot of guys on our team who aren’t playing good either to be in this league. It’s embarrassing.”

Despite what truth there might be in that statement (and the fact that at least Marky took some repsonsibility)…to throw your teammates under the bus like that (when they can take their own responsibility) was a bit rash, and can contribute to ill will in the dressingroom.
They’re second from the basement in the western conference and probably going for the lottery thing now. I was always torn between the disapproval of a team that’s obviously trying to tank for a good draft choice*, and the fact that the Canucks have almost never been in a good position for a sorely-needed top draft pick. Just like the Mary MacGregor song - always torn between those two concepts. (and yeah - feelin like a fool, alright)

*ETA - Well, Horvat went 9th overall in 2013, but still…I want no. 1!!!

Seattle wants a hockey team!

I think it would be great if the Knights were the first of three or 4 new teams. For one, it means that hockey is gaining popularity. B), it means more teams and more complicated playoffs and last, it means more jerseys hanging in my closet. Finally, hockey is the most metal of all sports, and I see hockey’s rise as directly related to the enduring and expanding popularity of metal.

So yeah, I support Seattle in their quest for all things hockey and all things that rock. I wonder what the mascot will be? The Seattle Sound? That’d be cool!

Quite frankly, I think a team somewhere in Canada should be a bigger priority.
(Oh, and yes, I cried last week.)

Yeah, it’ll be cool to see what eventually comes of this. Interesting metal comparison you made - certainly can’t associate Celine Dion or Aqua with the game. Considering some of the music they pipe out as the players skate out onto the ice - sure. (Me - I’m an old curmudgeon who preferred the pre-game old style, when there was no light show, no rock, nothin - just some warm Hammond keyboards.)

The new Seattle Mascot? Ok I guess this stick-in-the-mud can deal with that. I’d like to see it based, somehow, on Master Shake.

Bo - maybe if you acquire a Golden Seals jersey or two, I might give your closet any sort of consideration. [gotta brag - I got a home (Meloche) and away (Johnson)]

Ideally, Quebec City would be nice again, but not at all looking promising.
(Marc-Andre tears, I’m guessing.:o)

Thanks in part to an outstanding performance from New Jersey, Las Vegas is back on top of the league today!

I hate not knowing which Red Wings team will show up on any given night. Last night was not the one I was hoping to see. at least my ticket included beer. I made good use of it.

Oh yeah! A convincing 7-3 win over a road-worthy Calgary team keeps Las Vegas in the top spot!

Now THAT was some good fucking hockey! Good job USA!

I did not realize that the Knights set a few records the other night against Calgary, but I want to congratulate Alex Tuch for being the first Las Vegas player to get a Gordie Howe hat trick! Good job, Alex!

::grumble grumble how all you lucky miscreants in all these hockey threads can check out an NHL game in a mere hop, skip and a jump while this aggrieved soul has to deal with a half-hour drive, hour and a half ferry ride, then another 45 minute drive to check out a game grumble grumble::

  • angry Canadian!

Quite the Black Hawks slump recently with eight straight losses. Then again, that Seabrook-Keith-Toews-Kane core is slowing down, especially Brooky, and with Crawford injured…

Oh…a couple minutes into the second period in their Monday, Mar. 12 game against the Habs Torts will collapse behind the bench from a fatal cardiac arrest.

Just so ya know, T-Mobile Arena is less than 6 miles from my house. It takes me about 20-25 minutes to get from my house to my seat when I go see a game, and that’s because I park across the Strip at the MGM and walk to the arena. If I park at NYNY it takes me 15 minutes (but takes an extra 15-20 minutes to get home as I sit in traffic trying to get across the Strip).
