Habs win in OT (again) against Buffalo. Another defenseman - O’Byrne- is injured. At this rate, this team is seriously in trouble on the blue line!
Not a good start for Ottawa. The defence was horrid against the Rangers, hanging Leclaire out to dry all night long. Despite not giving up a goal, the penalty killing was an absolute horror show. The Rangers were allowed to walk out front at will but Leclaire bailed out his PK’ers time and time again. The PP was a total disaster as well. I’m not sure that they created a single chance to score although they did get 5 shots on the first PP, so maybe I’ve forgotten something.
Detroit is 0-2. I blame Sweden.
Okay fine. It’s not the Swede’s fault. It’s sloppy play and rather worrisome goaltending. Detroit’s offense looked out of sync and the defensive play is just poor. I don’t know if it’s the influx of new players throwing the team off or if Babcock is not going a good job coaching them. As for the goaltending, eep. When Ozzie is on his mental “A” game, he’s a great goalie. When he’s not, average at best and needing a solid defense in front of him which Detroit is having a rather surprising problem with doing. Where’s Scotty Bowman when we need him? It’s hard to say whether Jimmy Howard is ready, but he hasn’t looked any better than he did in his last few stints.
It was DAMNED close tonight. I was just about ready to turn the TV off. (But Sid of course, always comes through! If I were ten years younger, I swear I’d be stalking him. ;))* Seriously though, if he keeps it up, he’s gonna be our next Mario, almost.
But damn – three fights – how common is that, really?
*Note: I’m only kidding!
Who will win the Northeast if Boston doesn’t? I’m a Habs fan, and I expect them to be in the hunt for one of the lower seeds, but at the same time, I can also see them winning the Northeast if Boston seriously stumbles. ( I can also see them missing the playoffs, too.)
I don’t expect that Boston will stumble that far. But stranger things have happened.
It’s nice to see my Blues at the top of the standings and Detroit at the bottom. I know it won’t last, so I have to enjoy it while I can.
I need to check with our local cable outlet and see if I’ll be seeing any Blues games in HD this season. I get Blues games on Fox Sports Midwest but for some reason our cable company decides not to broadcast them in HD, only in SD.
Boston is not that good of a team. Last season they were the best of a horrible division, but the playoffs showed that they’re a paper tiger.
The Canes win in a shootout, and Mike Smith puts Stephane Yelle in a headlock.
Rysto, I think the Bruins are a bit more than a paper tiger.
A bad shootout loss for the Stars against the Oilers. They had the lead 3 times and gave up goals quickly to let the Oilers tie it up. The Stars fan boards are already screaming at Turco. Interesting to see if backup goalie Auld gets a start this weekend.
AAAhhhhhh… that’s better!
Not much more satisfying than beating them leaves. I feel all truculent and pugnacious now.
Damn, Nabby is going downhill fast.
Didn’t you hear? Detroit IS the West!
Danny Heatley with a hat trick debut at home. NICE!
(I just wish I could have seen it, grumble, grumble grumble)
Given the off season debacle, the Coyotes are off to an impressive start. 2 wins and a decent performance in a loss coming off a back to back after defeating Pittsburgh.
Last nights win turns out to be a mixed bag. Ozzie looked as sharp as he’ll need to be to keep Detroit in it’s accustomed place in the standing, but who’ll replace Franzen for the next four months? Best option would be Bertuzzi, but I’m doubtful. That’d be a surprising return to form for the troubled power forward. Maybe Shanny will come back. ;)And while it’s three games into the season, Detroit’s scattered play in both ends has me concerned. It may just be the player turnover messing with chemistry, but it’s the job of the coaching staff to handle that. Hopefully Babcock can get Detroit tightened down in the defensive end at least.
Canes skin the Kitties 7-2, make it back to .500.
Mo Must Go( To The Playoffs!)
I think the Stars will be using more of Alex Auld. Turco isn’t going to start another insane amount of games this year, not with the compressed schedule and the large amount of back to back games the Stars get.
Auld looked good in his debut tonight. The Stars managed to hang on to a lead and knocked off the Flames.

Golly, the NHL is biased in favor of the Penguins.
Just a quick question about Versus. Has anyone else noticed that the whites are their whitest on Versus? It seems to be so on all the games I’ve watched. Right now I’m watching Detroit vs. Buffalo and the ice is so bright that I can barely see the center ice logo. It’s fine on every other channel on all household sets so I’m assuming it’s the network. Anyone else noticed this?
