How about them Stars? They just ended a 4 game road trip undefeated and only giving up 7 goals. 6-1 on the season. Things are looking up.
So the Blue Jackets are off to the second worst start in NHL history. The 1943-44 New York Rangers hold the distinction with an 0-11 start. That team had a truly awful year, with only 6 wins and the last win came on January 22. I’ll assume they must have lost players to World War II .
At least the Blue Jackets most recent loss was only 3 - 2 as opposed to the 4+ score differentials we’ve been seeing.
The Wings are on a 3-game skid, having lost to Carolina, Montreal, and Edmonton. I think Carolina is good, I know the Canadiens are bleeping amazing this year, and the Oilers have the best rookie of the current class, so I’m not that concerned right now. We need to beat the Flames tonight, but I don’t know much about them this year.
And the Flames to beat the Wings.
While they have improved on paper this year, they are having a dismal start. I think one scribe said the only team worse than them has already replaced their coach. Or something like that.
If you haven’t seen this clip you have to. PK Subban doing Don Cherry. I only wish it was longer.
In recent years their season’s been in the tank by Thanksgiving. This time they decided to relieve the suspense by being out of it before Halloween.
*"We have learned in the most personal way that the games mean just as much in October,” coach Todd Richards said (before the season started). “What have I told the guys? Well, we’ve talked about it. But honestly, I don’t think there’s a ton that needs to be said. These guys know the situation. They’ve lived it. They’ve paid dearly for those slow starts.
“So, if there’s a message, it’s a simple one: Be ready to go."*

I despise 3 on 3 for the latest gimmick in overtime , but the Hawks quickly scored in OT to win in this Stanley Cup rematch
Woo-hoo, CBJ beats the Avalanche! Winning streak!!!
If this keeps up, they’ll screw themselves out of the top draft pick.
All teams now have at least one win. Will Montreal make it thru Western Canada this week without a loss?
No more undefeated teams.
Great Caps - Pens game last night. Fluery was fantastic as his first star of the game reflects.
Is Kessell, Malkin and Crosby the first PP line or were they just switching things up last night?
I didn’t want to go bragging and jinx them or anything: But my, that was a very nice October!
Yeah it was, and now they get to start November in Toronto. Let us just say Toronto is a team in disarray right now.
Yeah, right now, it’s easy to fantasize about it being like 1999. A lot of November looks kind of soft, we face Toronto twice. However, the Central looks to be the hardest division to be in during the early running, only Colorado (who we lost badly to) has a losing record, and they’re in seventh place.
Of course, we’re only an eighth through the season. Fantasies about 1999 are just that. We also see the Wild twice (I get to see 'em in person once!) in November, Boston tomorrow, and the Caps and Canucks later in the month. So, for the moment, I’m happy we’re where we are, and pray we can keep it up.
Yes, the result last night is exactly why I don’t go around making predictions. As I’m fond of telling a co-worker of mine: There’s a reason they play the games.
