NHL/Olympic Hockey: February 2010

After seeing the Norway game, I really think Canada has a good chance at gold this Olympics. When they inevitably play Russia I hope the home crowd advantage makes a difference.

Sunday’s game against the US should be fun to watch.

Finland over Belarus 5-1
Sweden over Germany 2-0

Lundqvist with the shutout.

Well. Hiller had a great game, but all in all the Swiss played equal to the Canucks throughout the whole game. Just proves what a goaltender who gets hot can do to predictions.
Great excitement though.

Hiller was awesome, Canada kinda sucked shit though. You see how many pucks they over skated or missed? All the passes missing the tape? They had a terrible game and Swiss got lucky on their second goal. I really can’t see Canada winning gold with the effort they showed today.

Sunday’s game is gonna be fun. Canada showed some weakness, and the U.S. has a chance to go through as top seed. Which puts them in a decent spot to go for a medal with a bye and a lesser quarterfinal opponent.( I think, do the seeds go by goal differential after points?). I’d much rather not quarterfinal against Russia please

so much reliance on San Jose’s forward line that wilts under pressure is gonna be fun to watch. They needed more experimentation with line juggling. But with the game not being a one-sided affair they had to stick with the same tired formula. Canada better get its act together pronto or we’ll be seeing another 7th place finish.

Or on second thought, maybe Russia isn’t as good as I thought either and the whole damn thing is a crap shoot.

Cool

 Do they at least get one pass for bailing out the rest of the team against the Swiss?

The only good thing about the close call with the Swiss is the fact that Team Canada now feels the desperation. Now it’s either they wilt under the pressure or they rise to the occasion and bring home the gold.

With Russia taking an OT/SO loss things are looking bad for them. Norway got a point for pushing the Swiss team to OT. Hopefully all the usual powers of hockey wake up and start producing. I personally don’t like the small rinks they’re using. They shoulda used Olympic sized hockey rinks. More ice more room for creativity.

That was a practical impossibility. There’s no point in spending $300-500 million on a new arena when GM place is better than most venues they’ve ever held Olympic hockey in before.

Jaroslav Halak is playing quite well. You can practically see his value rising every game. A shutout at the Olympics is a good thing to have on a resumé, I think, as is beating the Russian team by only allowing one goal! If he stays hot and the rest of the Habs can finally heal and refocus, the season might not be quite as much of a bust as it looks at the moment! I can dream, right? What’s that slogan…I believe!

Yay Russia/Czech republic; U.S/Canada and Sweden/Finland this is one of the greatest days of Hockey ever. I got beer and I got burgers.

It is going to be a great day, at least in terms of hockey!

Martin Brodeur has braces. I don’t know why, but I think that’s kind of awesome. It’s also adorable.

I don’t have anything substantive to add at the moment, but I really wanted to say

GO USA!!! :cool::p:D

(And it’s going to be really strange to be cheering against Sid! But I will manage!)

Funny, I seem to find it coming quite naturally.

Hehe I love being able to cheer for a Red Wing and the USA at once. Go Rafalski

Oooh…it’s tied…not!

This game could get very hurty.

It’s like an All-Star game with hitting. There could have been six goals in the period, and it could have been 3-0 U.S. in the first three minutes.

whew Nice couple of minutes.
