blame that shit on Pronger. The American player was pushed into Brodeur because the veteran Pronger did it. I thought it was a non call too and was pissed but seeing the replay Pronger was backing up and sort of causing the interference.
I didn’t think Brodeur was sharp at all. Seriously, is he the best Canadian goaltender? I’ve never been a fan of his, he can look great some nights and like crap on other nights.
That’s what I thought when I saw it at full speed, but when I saw the replay I clearly saw the American backing up without being touched.
Well, the reffing was still better than average. I thought they let the players dictate the flow of the game rather than blowing whistle after whistle.
I thought that last tripping penalty called on Erik Johnson looked kinda weak (was that Patrick Marleau that was supposedly tripped)? I don’t think I saw the replay on that but at the time it seemed like an even-up call to me. Either way I wouldn’t complain about the officiating overall.
It was absolutely a good call, but they got the wrong man. Drury literally had his stick in Marleau’s skates.
yea, wrong person got the penalty, replay showed the stick lodged in his skate. The penalty was warranted though.
What I don’t get is how the ref could possibly get the wrong guy. I mean, a player trips over a stick and the stick gets torn out of somebody’s hands. How hard can it possibly be to figure out who did it?
Pronger was terrible in 2006 in Turin. Why they continue putting him on the team I will never understand.
it’s because he has “experience”… he’s slow, short-tempered (i.e. easily prone to retaliation penalties, and overrated. What balances it out is “leadership”, “work ethic”, “experience” and all those other stupid stuff.
They should’ve fixed the player who got the penalty but E. Johnson did help the tripping too. He took a swing at the skates. The swing plus the stick in the guy’s skates precipitated the trip. Only one guy took the fall and the obvious stick in guy’s skate player wasn’t the guy going into the penalty box.
We need the NHL hockey games to be this intense every game.
Another funny thing to add in today’s Toronto Sun. One writer wrote, paraphrasing.
" The Maple Leafs are undefeated in nine days, it’ll reach eighteen soon"
And Finland is putting up t one of the worst power play performances I’ve seen, including the two most tentative and uninspiring 5 on 3s in history.
Oh, my, that was a great game to watch. Miller played his ass off (Rafalski, too.)
Besides Luc Robitaille (in 2006), this the only other Red Wing I’ve rooted for, EVER. Good for him.
Ah, the Triple Crowned Line.
That game lived up to the hype. Very much an all-star game with definitive incentives that made them play hungry. I guess Team USA wanted more than appetizers though.
Question: Did anyone see if there were any players from the same NHL team going at each other’s throats during that game?
Looking at the rosters, here are the NHL teams which have sent players to both Team USA and Team Canada.
Anaheim
Boston
Chicago
Los Angeles
Nashville
New Jersey
Pittsburgh
San Jose
Vancouver
So it is certainly possible.
I wouldn’t exactly call it “going at each other’s throats,” but Sidney Crosby was called for a high stick on Brooks Orpik, his NHL teammate.
Yes, it is possible, though Canada would now have to win in a play-off qualification match in addition to quarterfinals and semifinals.
Well done, lad, well done !
I believe that was more coincidental rather than intentional on Crosby’s part.
For the Kings and Ducks, I believe there were no players involved. Just wondering if any NHL teammates got so overly emotional in that game that they did something that might become an issue when they got back to their team(s) after the Olympic break.
From here:
The article goes on to talk about the ‘hate’ between teams. But nothing specific between players for the same team.
