NHL Playoffs 2025

Well, there was ‘The Miracle on Manchester’. However, that was a first round game. I really don’t remember many huge come from behind wins.

Limiting the criteria to road teams in the finals really limits the sample size.

Hoping the tone wasn’t set when Marchand just embarrassed the Oiler defense for the Panthers’ opening goal.
Crossing fingers this will be a ‘road’ series, then, with the 7th game being the exception.

I wonder how the game would have turned out if the Oilers had been able to capitalize on those early fire drills in the Florida zone?

Oilers had zero luck and the Panthers had just enough… I am also hoping it goes to seven games. It sucks if your last home game ends like that.

Well, one period to go and Florida is up 3-0. This leads me to conclude that all I need to do to make a team lose is root for them. However, it will not work if I start to root for Florida (because I actually want Edmonton to win). Well, Bill Mosienko only needed 21 seconds. Edmonton has 20 minutes. I hope they figure it out.

I wonder which is worse, being last place in the NHL or losing the Stanley Cup final two years in a row.

Well, these last two game have proved to be one of the more anticlimactic finals. Edmonton just has no answer for them and can’t even make a game of it. McDavid with one goal this entire series.

At least there’s no shutout?

Oilers were outplayed and outcoached. Skinner couldn’t get it done but pulling him so early in the third…twice… doesn’t exactly put the odds on your side.

Welp, that’s it. Panthers champs again. That Canada drought is real.

Damn, no game seven, huh? I swear I thought Edmonton had it in them.

Oh well, season starts again in a few months. Hope the core of your favorite team returns next year, everyone!

Stanley Cup Finals

Florida Panthers (4) over Edmonton Oilers (2)
That’s it. For the second straight year Florida defeats Edmonton.

Something to observe about the NHL: they have now had three repeat champions in the last ten years. Pittsburgh (2016-17), Tampa (2020-21) and now Florida.

I’m not sure that any team could have beaten the Panthers.
McDavid was a bit of a letdown in the series.
A Florida team has been in the finals for 6 straight years…

Yeah, Florida top players had a slow start in the Finals, but came on strong in the last three games.

Edmonton was the opposite.

Looks like Bennet scoops the Conn Smythe.
(and for second year in a row Connor Hellebuyck gets the Vezina) (AND Hart this year!)

Hey, I’m sure the Leafs would kill for a chance to just be in the Cup Final for the first time in 58 years! Or at least just one more chance to make it to the Conference Final in this century, even if they lose!

Need I remind everyone that this is the richest hockey club in the NHL, with the highest ticket prices? What a buncha money-grubbing losers!
