NHL season begins Jan 13 with new divisions

I agree they shouldn’t blow up the team, but maybe look at new coaching. But, if they do blow it up, I’m sure the Isles would love to pick up Matthews, Marner, or Tavares. Well, maybe not Tavares.

As a Flames fan, it’s been a terribly disappointing season but I must say the misery of Oilers and Leafs fans is taking a lot of the sting out of it :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: It still feels like whoever is coming out of the North division is going to get absolutely clobbered by whoever wins between Colorado or Vegas. I think that would have been true even if Toronto or Edmonton were the North division champs, but it’s hard to tell the relative strength of teams this year with the lack of inter-divisional games.

Evander Kane said that instead of suspending Reaves, Vegas should be required to play him 20 minutes per game for the rest of the series.

FINALLY, Fleury gets his due: he’s nominated for the Vezina!

It’s about fucking time.

I have a question about the re-seeding process – if, somehow, the Isles and the Habs make it to the finals, they were both 4th seeds – who would have home ice? Feel free to substitute your tied-seeding teams of choice (Bruins/Jets, Canes/Avs, whatever).

Regular season standings along with tie-breaker rules determine the seeding. In the example, the Islanders would have home ice versus Montreal.

I think you mean, “the Islanders will have home ice versus Montreal.”

Thanks!

If Scheifele doesn’t get a suspension then the Department of Player Safety if broken.

Wow! That was a dirty hit! Must have been after the whistle, too, because the puck had gone in. Totally unnecessary.

Amen. Sometimes I’ll even FF between whistles, espeiclally if, say, Mr. Mcguire or Milbury (Ha! Who?) is yapping away. OR if my team is down by three or four goals early on and I’m not quite feeling patient that particular day, I’ll “lightning bolt” my way past a period or two.
Then again everything gets PVR’ed; these… commericals, you speak of…

Heh - almost saddening seeing the odd dot of white in the lower levels - so used to seeing that small, intimate venue - like Nashvile’s - hummin like no other arena in the league.

Yeah, Scheifele - I don’t even like repeatedly watching those replays, like with Tavares.

Damn Nathan McKinnon blows me away almost as much as Connor McDavid.
The speed: whole other level. (well, excepting CM)
His puck handling has been bonkers razzle-dazzly.
You almost get a weird, improbable crush on him, watching him just burn on a coast to coast, or around the opposing boards and crazy fast behind the net and out along the other boards (Borzal can sometimes do that as break-neck as McKinnon.) (sure, Cyclone Taylor did it, and later on - Jacques Lemaire - but sometimes some players just re-define things.)

Nitpick: Barzal

Yeah, McKinnon reminds me of a Barzal who can actually score goals. Great speed and moves, but that McKinnon shot is unbelievable.

The Canes and Lightning game just put the Canadiana of hockey on display to perfection.

Well, it was a Winnipeg Wipeout, which their hapless fans are used to.

{{:laughing:}}

Does Mark Scheifele now have to sit out the season opener next fall? He was suspended for four games, but they wound up only playing three more.

Yes. The suspension carries over.

Is there a whinier coach than Bruce Cassidy? Do you think his complaining about the referees hurts or helps his team?

Winnipeg whiteout wipeout at the right time of year. Not now though.

Woo hoo!
