NHL Season starts tonight!

Finally! The NHL season is starting!

Tonight:
NYR at CAR
DAL at Col
PHX at LA

Hot DAMN I’m excited! I’m making it a point to stick with it this year. None of this ‘business trip’ crap to get in the way. I’m gonna spend my Saturday nights on the couch with a 6-pack of Molson. Woooo!

Tripler
Go Devils!

Praise Jebus!

Miss Creant has been looking forward to the onset of hockey season as well. Not for the games, mind you, but to watch my reaction to the games.

Oh yeaahhhhhhhh!!!

Now we men (and some women) will have something worthwhile to talk about.

Tomorrow, Oilers vs Philly.

I guess it’s almost time for me to start “Quest for the Grail, Episode III” in the Pit. It’s traditional.

And who was the top scoring - winningest team in the pre-season?

Habs are lookin’ good, baby!

Gotta love what Savard has done with the Habs. A whole season of Koivu, Audette…Theo putting up the wall…Hainsey showing some good rookie promise (with Komisarek waiting in the wings)…off season acquisitions Czerkawski and Mackay (too bad about the broken foot).

Looking solid this season. GO HABS!!

Yep, I’ll be on the couch watching Dallas and Colorado tonight. I’ve got my Guinness and Hornsby with a big ass bad of pretzels ready!

Only problem is: I don’t know who to root for more! Dang it…I hate it when your two favorite teams play each other :frowning:

Maybe this is the year Montreal (or one of the other teams north of the border) ends a 10 year drought on Stanley Cup Finals appearances. But, I wouldn’t count on it.

I expect to see Detroit-Philadelphia in this year’s finals.

Sorry, I just remembered it’s only been 9 seasons since a Canadian team made a finals appearance (Vancouver lost in 94 to the Rangers). Still, my prediction stands. No Canadian teams in this year’s finals.

I would have updated my last post, but for some reason I could not.

I don’t know…neither one has addressed their weakness at goaltending. Joseph is a solid regular season goalie who is arguably the most over-rated goalie in hockey today. Add to that the age-factor and I don’t see it happening. As for Philly, Cechmanek…puh-leaze. Unless they trade for a first string goalie (Hackett???), Philly is going nowhere.

Colorado is pretty much the team to beat in the west (even though I hate to admit it…) and I think the east is up for grabs, but if I had to pick an early season favorite, I’d go with the Devils.

Regardless of what I think, I’m just glad the season is finally starting!

Again…GO HABS!!!

Dunno 'bout top-scoring, but the winningest team was the Minnesota Wild, who went 9-0-1. Which proves that either the preseason really is meaningless, or there are going to be 29 (or 30) very surprised GMs in a few months.

Philly? They don’t got it (Barber wasn’t their only problem). Habs? Don’t got it (Theodore’s great, but the rest aren’t championship material…yet).
Leafs? Ah, they probably don’t got it, but hope springs eternal.

I too am extremely pumped for the start of hockey season. Since I’m moving to Germany in a month, I’ll be missing almost the entire NHL season, and I’ll only get to see one college game with my beloved Big Red. However, I’ve done reasearch and have adopted Die Adler Mannheim for the next 3 years as my team in the DEL. I just ordered a hat online…it should be here with plenty of time to spare before I go over there…maybe I can get season tix!

Jman

I’m really psyched for the Sharks this year. I’m hoping that all the attention on Colorado and Detroit will keep the pressure off an allow them to sneak up.

On another note, these protective nets have got to go. I was at a preseason AHL game and sat behind them briefly to check them out. They suck out loud. I’m counting on season ticket holders league-wide complaining and that they will hopefully be taken down soon.

Heh. as an Oilers fan I was glad to see Dallas finally get their last year. They did get rid of their #1 head case in Belfour though, so I must give some recognition for that. Colorado screwed up big time with the Drury trade. Morris is waaaaaaaay overrated. Might be enough that someone else takes the NorthWest this year.

Well opening night is over and Messier and Nedved are both on pace to score 162 goals. OK maybe not, but my Rangers sure did look good last night. There were penalties galore in all the games last night but the Rangers didn’t give up a PP goal. Last year they probably would have given up three or four.

Sorry Habs fans but you are not going to steal the thunder from the Rangers home opener on Friday.

Anyone know if Dafoe is going to get signed? I know he had a falling out with Boston Mgt. I am thinking that the Philly Cheesesteaks will be interested after they realize how bad Chechmanek is as their #1 goalie.

Lets Go Rangers!!

Errr I meant 164 goals. Not that it really mattered but I figured someone would correct me.

I was disappointed in the Stars last night. They really slowed down after the first period and didn’t have crap for shots on goal :frowning:

And for that they diserved to tie. Actually, I’m realy impressed with Marty Turco! He was always a pretty steady guy in the net, but I didn’t know how being #1 would treat him. Looks good to me! That jumping save was pretty dang cool!

Well, as a Blackhawks fan, you can only assume that I am THRILLED…THRILLED at how hard we got screwed by the great Theo “Snow Job” Fleury.

Jarbayj, you should have realized that when even the Rangers didn’t want to keep him. With our record of Kevin Stevens and Theo its no wonder we have to over pay some of these declining stars. They have drug habits to support ya know.

Seriously though, it is sad what happened to Theo and I know how you feel because he pulled the same stunt on us a few years ago and at the time we were in the hunt for the playoffs (imagine that).
