NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs

I know someone who was at the game, and she said it was REALLY loud. It just isn’t captured on TV.

San Jose’s crowd is always into it. I’m not sure what game Guin was watching, either. They seemed pumped as hell.

It’s hard to maintain constant energy when the puck is always in your team’s zone, which was true for most of Game 3. I’m impressed they were as loud as they were. It felt like hours passed between scoring chances for the Sharks.

I work about three blocks away from the Shark Tank, and the mobs of fans in the streets are unprecedented. An hour and ten minutes before the game, and there are major throngs of teal people out there. I think I’ll go down and stand on the sidewalk to be a part of it, even if it’s just a little.

I’m back. It’s intense out there. And Sharkie is out among the crowd, riding his Segway and high-fiving kids.

I envy you, teela! My best bet is hoping they are showing the game in our company’s cafeteria, and not the Copa thingy.

Metallica! Wow!

Hendrix-style to boot! Love it!

ETA: Is Neil in the arena tonight?

Metallica and the Sharks go way back. They’ve done Metallica Night at the Tank in the past.

They’ve also played the national anthem for the San Francisco Giants at Metallica Night several years in a row now.

Neil who?

Young. He used to have season tickets, and they’d show him just hanging with the crowd on CBC. Just a regular fan in the audience. I haven’t watched a game from San Jose in years.

Isn’t Young a Jets fan?

That’s probably it. It seems a lot louder tonight. Plus I’ve gotten used to all the yellow towels. The turquoise isn’t as bright a color.

And as much as I want the Pens to win, gotta love Metallica.

If it weren’t on a weeknight, I’d go to the big screen on Thursday. Unfortunately they only have it set up for home games.

It looks like he played a concert yesterday in Glasgow, and plays tomorrow in Belfast, so I’m thinking a quick jaunt to San Jose for the game was probably out of the question tonight.

Pens win. 3-1 going back to Pittsburgh.

woohoo!!!

Yep, the Sharks are on the bubble, now. Every game is really do-or-die. I expected Pittsburgh to win it, but I didn’t expect it to happen in 5. In my heart of hearts, I still don’t, really. If the Pens win it Thursday, Sullivan better damn well get the Jack Adams next year, even if they tank.

And San Jose’s crowd is always pretty loud. I hear them boo the opposing team’s introduction every time I watch a televised game. It’s only slightly less classy than Dallas’ “Who cares?” when they announce the opposing goal scorers, and I never hear that on TV. I always picture them as a rambunctious crowd.

I’ve been a Sharks fan ever since they were called the Seals … Pittsburgh has a good hockey team … very very very good … maybe next year for the Sharks?

Um, the Seals moved to Cleveland in 1978, then merged into the Minnesota North Stars. The Sharks were a 1991 expansion team under their current name.

I was really disgusted when the Pens fans booed Paul Martin. You know, the guy was here for something like five years, and then wrote an article for The Players Tribuneabout how much he enjoyed his time here. What a bunch of ungrateful assholes.

Save your booing for Gary Bettman.

Oh, I also LOVE seeing Phil Kessel getting the praise that’s due him. People blamed him for years, and now there’s talk that he might be the Conn Smythe winner IF Pittsburgh wins. knock on wood Personally, I’d give it to Murray, but I’m thrilled to see the guy finally get reconition.

Hell, he and his linemates have inspired asandwich!

I’m not bragging, but even IF we lose (and I don’t think that will happen knock on wood), I’m so proud of my team. Considering how bad we sucked at the beginning of the season, and the fact that there were calls to trade Crosby and Malkin, I’m just bouncing off of walls. Ever have that feeling as a sports fan?

(The ONLY excuse I can give the League for not nominating Sullivan for the Jack Adams is that he came in too late in the season. If that’s not the case, he was robbed)

If knock on wood we win tomorrow*, this will be the first victory on home territory since 1960, when the Pirates won the World Series.
*There’s also the possibility of Game 7, but I’m sooo hoping for tomorrow night knock on wood Why yes, I am superstitious. Can’t you tell?

That sandwich looks great, Guin! Go Pens!

You should see the crowd downtown. You know how they set up the big screen at Consol for home games? There are so many people that they went and put up a second one over at Market Square!

I can’t imagine traffic down there tonight – I feel for anyone who has to work tonight. It’s going to be mayhem. My cousins and I considered going down, but I’m kinda glad we didn’t. I mean, you probably couldn’t even get out of there until after midnight.
