NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs

That was one hell of a first period!

Might be a lot of disappointed fans trying to leave at this point!

Well I haven’t tried it yet myself, but Primantis is always good. If you’re ever in the Burgh, I’ll treat you to one. (Provided it’s still here – it’s not supposed to be a permanent addition. If not, I’ll still treat you to any sandwich there. Or any other person who roots for the Pens)

Tell me about it. Oh well, I keep reminding myself it’s NOT an elimination game for us!
(The League wasn’t too happy about that screen when it was first put up, but Mario basically told them fuck it. Don’t have a cite at the moment, but I’ll find it)

Ah, here we go!

Yay Sharks!

Man, hockey is such a fundamentally cruel game in it’s randomness. It’s like being paid on commission, but you get paid in lottery tickets. The more and harder you work, the more chances you get, but that doesn’t mean you’ll actually get anything out of those chances.

I mean, Smith made a couple amazing skillful saves, but when a point blank shot bounces off your facemask (and lands away from any opposing players), that’s not skill, that’s having the scratch ticket gods smile on you that day.

Boy is it’s fun spoiling the party. Here’s hoping the SHARKS spoil the next party attempt next week.

It’s nice to see my guys finally outplay them, even if it was mostly one guy doing the heavy lifting. Jones got in their heads, then Vlasic got under crybaby’s skin, and the whole Pens team looked mighty fine sitting heads down, degected.

Almost surreal contemplating Kessel going from the Leafs last year to (maybe?) winning the Conn Smythe with (maybe?) the Cup-winning Penguins.
Of course I could end up eating my words with a Shark’s 7th-game series win.
I hope Burns and Thornton had a beard-off, with measuring tape.

I love how Kessel has redeemed himself. The Toronto media ate him alive.

(slight hijack)

“You guys are idiots” I remember Kessel saying to the scrum in the dressing room at some point the previous season.

Leaffan - I don’t remember the details of that situation too well - were the reporters being in fact douches, or was Kessel being a thin-skinned mollusc?

Bet you’re happy to see Mr. Matthews around.

Considering how the reporters treated the guy during his time there, I don’t blame him.

Reporters were trying to blame the firing of coach Randy Carlisle on Kessel, and his perceived uncoachability.

Kessel called the reporter an idiot, or something. And the reporter was an idiot.

It’s hard to play under the microscope in Toronto. I must say though, they’ve been doing this rebuild correctly, for a change. They have a lot of young talent and will be acquiring more shortly. It’s about time.

They haven’t had a first overall pick since Wendel Clark in 1985 I believe. Wendel was absolutely fantastic, but he missed a lot of hockey because of his back.

So, I’m pumped for the next few seasons as the Leafs really do rebuild.

I’ll return you now to your regular programming.

Congratulations to the Pittsburgh Penguins. They were definitely the better team.

And now we get to watch the most impressive sight in all of professional sports: the handshake line.

Get out of my head!

Aye, 'grats to the Penguins!

Time for everyone else to regroup! #100 starts in just 4 months!

WE DID IT WE DID IT WE DID IT!!!

They’re showing the crowd outside on Carson Street on the news, and it is huge. I can’t imagine how traffic is going to be tonight.

(And while I love Sid, I don’t think he deserved the Conn Smythe. It should have gone to either Murray or Kessel. Speaking of, I’m going to have a hot dog tomorrow in his honor.)

Between this and Villanova, it’s been a good few months for Pennsylvania sports.

I wasn’t surprised … but I thought Murray or even Kessel had definitely earned a nod.

I like how Kessel handled the media afterwards, as well. It was clear they were baiting him a bit but he went on to thank everyone who he’d worked with over his entire career.

I have to admit though, it was hilarious when my 10-year old son blurted out “Suck it Toronto!” in perfect synchronization with Kessel hoisting the Cup.

Well done, Pens! Maybe next year, Sharks…not a bad show for your first time.

Hilarious seeing Elliotte Friedman distinctly wincing during the first intermission when explaining how difficult it will be to select the Conn Smythe winner.

I just love to think of Steve Simmons squirming after all the shit he gave Kessel. Now the guy’s got his name on the Cup, and Simmons has to eat Crow. Hee hee!

(And I did indeed have a hot dog for dinner, and it was fucking delicious.)

I might just be going to the victory parade – a friend and I are planning on it, if she can manage it. If so, I’ll definetely show pics! (I do think they should have scheduled it for Friday, because the weather’s supposed to be a lot better. Plus it’ll give our boys a chance to get some sleep!)
