Resources used to go after the innocent are a waste of resources.
The government has never regarded those who violate the law as “innocent” even if such a violation is not criminal. And if the government wanted to get really serious they could arrest millions overnight for working illegally, which is a felony.
But I’m willing to play along, if driving without a license and working with fake papers is not a crime, then it’s okay if I do them. I am “law abiding” if I do those things, correct?
That’s just too good; you may have inadvertently provided the soundtrack to the next tiki-torch parade.
Good! The Horst Wessel song is hard for English speakers to master.
I would love to see a white conservative male yanked out of bed at 6AM, thrown into detention along with their family, then permanently deported to Mexico for an I-9 document violation. That would happen exactly once before the law would be changed amid howls of injustice and victimization.
I mean, in your hypothetical, that’s what happens to you, right?
And look at this. They’re allowed to work.
Maybe resources could be used to raid the homes of Congresscritters. Who knows how many undocumented immigrants are working there?
Actually, in my hypothetical, you’re charged with a felony. Same as an immigrant. The law does not favor anyone in that situation, when caught.
The difference between the two is that the illegal immigrant is “law abiding” for the purposes of amnesty and once he comes forward he will never be prosecuted for that crime. I would have to continue to hide the fact that I’d worked under a fake identity until the statute of limitations ran out.
You’re charged with a felony and deported to Mexico, where you don’t speak the language and have no family. Not me… you. It was you breaking the law in this scenario. So is it cool for you, Adaher, to be permanently deported to Mexico for an I-9 violation?
I didn’t make it a felony. If the government doesn’t regard employment document fraud as a serious crime, perhaps they should downgrade it to a civil violation?
Oh?
Suppose if some Dreamer joins our armed forces and buys it overseas, they’ll bury him here. Permanent residence.
Unlike green card holders, Dreamers are not eligible to join the military without jumping through a lot of hoops. In true Catch 22 tradition, at this time those hoops basically lead to nowhere.
So, you’d “love” to see an injustice done? It seems that you are not so concerned with whether injustice is done or not, but to whom that injustice is done. That is no bueno, if you ask me.
What HMS Irruncible wants to see is one single instance of injustice which would put an end to a very large number of other, equally bad, injustices. It’s not hypocritical to say that a single injustice is preferable to many injustices.
I’m pretty skeptical that the one proposed injustice would put an end to a very large number of other injustices. Bad shit happens to white, conservative males regularly, some of it even at the hands of the government, and yet we haven’t put a stop to it yet. I guess WASP men make pretty good boogey-men for the Left’s purposes, but they’re not nearly as powerful as you seem to think.
Can you quote the part of his post where he says that? Or the part of some post that even implies that? We can’t read his mind, we can only read his post.
Care to cite a few cases equivalent to the DACA mess?
You mean, the part where he says that it would happen exactly once before the law was changed?
“Stick-to-ive-ness” as an admirable quality in a leader is rather situational, no? Or is anyone fit for the office so long as he sticks to the syllabus?
