Nice try Ottawa Senators!

Good luck with Hasek next year (if there is one). You still suck, and won’t beat Toronto until you get rid of that cheap swede as a captain.

Oh to all you yankees and other people, yes this is aboot hockey, eh! Now pass the bacon, donuts and maple syrup!

This from a fan of a team that has Darcy Tucker AND Brian Marchment? Oh, irony…

Have to agree with the man. I think it was a pretty damn stupid move to fire sale a quality goalie like Lalime in order to get a middle aged man with more retirements than Ozzy Osbourne.

I don’t know what the over/under is with Hasek and Ottawa, but I don’t see him playing more than 40 games in Ottawa.

(ohh, and screw the Maple Leafs for treating a legend like Ron Francis like shit)

ditto. Getting rid of Lalime is the only thing the sens can do. They need a change at goalie and the move was good for both teams. The blues get a quality goalie and the sens free up salary. I dunno if Hasek was a good move, yes he’s old, but he’s roughly the same age as Ed Belfour (Ed is younger by about three months). With career stats like Hasek they’d be stupid not to give him a shot. The salary is 2.5M or something there abouts, nothing that will put the team in the poorhouse. All the Sens need now is a little bit of heart. They needed Peca a few years back when they had the chance.

I dunno, from where I sit, the sens look okay.

Then from where you’re sitting, you can’t see the New Jersey Devils.

Because Toronto has won so many Cups with that expensive Swede as their captain.

For Christ’s sake, I can understand making fun of a team with choking issues - if you were a fan of a team like Detroit or Montreal, a team that had actually won something in recent memory. Making fun of any other team when you’re a LEAF fan is like making fun of other baseball teams if you’re a Red Sox fan, or like an Iraqi soldier making fun of France’s military record. It’s like Roseanne Barr insulting people in a karaoke club.

The Senators may or may not win the cup whenever they start the NHL again; they might choke, or they might not. But they have an outside shot. The Leafs are DEFINITELY not going to win the Cup next season. Or the season after that. Or ever. It doesn’t matter if they rent Joe Sakic, Jarome Iginla, Markus Naslund and bring Maurice Richard and Georges Vezina back from the grave. It would not matter if they hired Jesus Christ to play left wing. It wouldn’t make any difference if they traded Ed Belfour for Lieutenant Commander Data. To don the blue and white is to embrace loserdom.

Well 5 straight years of playoff failure meant they had to do something. The goalie and the coach had to go. Bonk too.

Still I don’t like this move. I’d rather they build a team rather than lunge for the cup through a debatable goalie trade.

Jesus plays nets.

And saves.

And here I thought this was going to be another Canadian Election thread…

Tucker is no mor or less cheap then Alfredsson, and they both have a big mouth. Marchment…well Ok, but he didn’t do anything cheap as a Leaf (to my amazement) and he’s a free agent.

The goalie was not Ottawa’s only problem. Lalime isn’t a terrible goalie, he had a bad game 7 though. Hasek is old, a dressing room problem or at least those are the reports from detroit, and solely relies on god given talent to excel. Admittedly there is a lot of talent there, but once you approach 40 you need more then just talent to survive in any sports league, you need hard work. Hasek has never been known for hardwork. Belfour while he also has a reputation for being a bad dressing room guy, works hard each and every day. Thats the difference between him being good now and Hasek not being so good now.

As to the Leafs NEVER winning another cup, don’t say that, it hurts! And I’d rather be a fan of a team that isn’t consisently rated as one of the most talented in the league to only time after time fail to a team that is cursed.

I’d take Sundin over Alfredsson any day. At least Sundin looks like a decent human being, cut that damn mop Danny boy!

Getting Francis was a dumbass decision in the first place. He was over the hill, never did anything for them… Shold have left him in Carolina.

And now an attempt to unite all Canadians. We are going to kick some ass at the World Cup this year! Swedes have no goalie, Russia has players dropping out left and right, Kiprissof (sp?) really isn’t as good as he seems sorry Finns, any team that has Jagr as captain well enough said, and the US no goalie same as Sweden. Brodeur will lead us to gold once again!

Guess I should have put some warning in the title

When Hasek was in Buffalo during his glory days he was very well known for his hard work. Always being the first and last person out on the ice during practice. Whether this is still the case who knows but Hasek’s work ethic back in the day was better than Belfour’s ever was.

Well there’s also the question of how Lalime would do next year. There a fair number of pictures of Lalime down in a butterfly stance with a beach ball behind him in the net. The first soft goal, the first crunch game loss and the call boards would light up like a Christmas tree. Ultimately I think it’s better for Lalime to get away from that and for the team to get a new goalie.

Hell if you expect a short season, say 40 games or so, Hasek might be in above average form, which for Hasek, is top of the league.

cdnguy - I know the goalie wasn’t really the Ottawa Senators problem. The thing is, a lot of people and apparently some people inside the Senators organization seem to think it is and you kind of need to have faith in your goalie. Getting a goalie like Hasek isn’t a huge financial risk and with six vezina trophys he’s the type of risk to take. It also gives the team some fresh hope. What’s the worst that could happen, they don’t win the cup next year?

The Senators real problem is (as I sort of said before) the lack of a team leader. There is no denying Alfredsson has talent (to say otherwise is simply ridiculous). They need a new captain. A player, as I said before, like Peca who is one of the hardest working players in the league. Because Peca isn’t available, I think they should pick up a player like Mark Recchi. I think he’s the type who could really help this team. Veteren leadership is always a good thing.

Oh, and because this is the pit, LAY THE FUCK OFF ALFREDSSON"S HAIR!

See there this thing called cold up here in Ottawa where we get snow. People in Ottawa even manage to move this snow on their own becasue they have thick heads of hair to keep them warm, Obviously the thining locks of Leaf fans is what prompted that whole embarrassing army digging out the city bit from a few years back.

Lord, without any Sens fans down there how would the city ever work between November and April?

During the season, yes Hasek did practice, and for a long time. However he was a fair bit younger then. Its easy to wrok hard when your young, your body is made for that. Its when you get old(er) that it becomes a chore to work hard, and by all accounts from Detroit he came in out of shape, didn’t work to hard,a dn that probably led to his season ending “injury”. Belfour on the other hand goes through a long ardous stretching routine each and every day, worjs out in the offseason to keep his body, and wonky back, in the best shape possible. I know Belfour didn’t use to be known as a hard worker, but he is now, when its truly needed.

Ok DRM I agree with you completely. The Sens have NO heart, and heart comes from the captain down. I’m not so sure Peca pr Rechi is the answer, but it sure couldn’t hurt. What they need to do is strip that C of the worst swedish captain in the league.

Grey, that was Lastman’s fault and NOOOOOObody elses. I don’t actually live in TO (just in the GTA), but I felt like a buffaloian then. Personlayy if I could vote in municipal elections in TO Lastman would have lost my vote for that reason, no matter what other dumb comments he said.

You couldn’t BE more wrong!

Everybody knows Jesus plays D!
LET’S GO ISLANDERS!!!

There are many things that you can question about Eddie Belfour. His work ethic is not one of them.

God, I fucking hate Mel Lastman. As a Torontonian, I take alot of flack for being from here and I can usually responded with my own pointed barbs. Until someone brings this up. Fuck you, Mel.
