Nicholas Courtney (Doctor Who's Brigadier) has died.

It seems to me that, while no Doctor has ever been particularly keen on firearms, the last couple have started to come off like anti-gun crusaders. I wonder how that would have mixed with a character who, uh, likes guns just fine.

Which episode was that line from?

The Daemons. (Pertwee)

Here’s the clip

The Dæmons.

A decent episode and a popular line, given to Courtney’s memoirs and a tvtrope

It’s sad that someone who was around for so many regenerations is gone, but as said above, good innings.

Laoded magazine is not actually a paragon of journalistic integrity. It does not fact check. It’s columnists are, I have no doubt, rarely sober, or for that matter, sane. It exists purely to be funny. A column dedicated to the notion of Greatest Living Englishman is probably a bit of a giveaway, really.

The quote has the virtue of “truthiness”. It deserves to have been said, even if it wasn’t. It captures the ur-spirit of the Brigadier better than any quotidian detail with the miserable virtue of actually having been said ever could.

Next, you’ll be telling me Bogie never said “Play it again, Sam.”

Cheesh.

Vale, Brigadier. (music swells, audience dabs eyes). You belong to forever.
On edit, I am now humbled to discover that it seems he actually said that line (or near as buggery.)

When truthiness merges with truth, the choir of angels sings.
