Pretty much until this thread, right now, I thought it WAS Knights in White Satin.
Meaning a white knight (on his horse and all).
Then again, I’ve never actually paid attention to the lyrics so…there’s that…

I got to perform with them…maybe 98 or 99 (they wanted an orchestra). Hadn’t heard of them before, but it was good times.
I love this song and Justin Hayward’s singing.
As of late I’ve found myself wishing there existed an “acoustic/ unplugged” version of him singing this (and other Moodies songs) when his voice was at it’s peak.
Like others, I always thought it was “Knights in White Satin”. Stupid D&D ruining* my brain with preconceptions.
“Knights in White Satin” sounds like a euphemism for the KKK. "Nights in White Satin, OTOH, is a great song.
Halloween costume idea?
As does Gypsy (Of A Strange & Distant Time). A childhood fave, I’ve recently gotten back into them with a vengeance.
Before there was “Nights In White Satin” there was “Signed D.C.” by Love.
I thought the song refers to 1950’s gangs wearing their colors (jackets)?
Wiseguy used this Song to end their first season. After Vinnie Terranova, the undercover cop, defeated the local mob boss, Sonny. Like two knights in battle.
I see from Google that it is spelled Nights in White Satin. Quite a surprise.
This is the 50th anniversary of the album and they played it live on tour this year.
Of course it’s “Nights” and not “Knights.” The title of the album is Days of Future Passed, and these are its sections:
A
“The Day Begins”
“The Day Begins”
“Morning Glory”
“Dawn: Dawn is a Feeling”
“The Morning: Another Morning”
“Lunch Break: Peak Hour”
B
“The Afternoon”
“Forever Afternoon (Tuesday?)”
“(Evening) Time to Get Away”
“Evening”
“The Sunset”
“Twilight Time”
“The Night”
“Nights in White Satin”
“Late Lament / Resolvement”
I suck at linking, so if you want to find this song on youtube, it is “Diamonds” by a duo called JOHNNYSWIM.
The below lyrics, as they rise into the final chorus, combined with the soaring music and powerful voices fill me with strength and determination. I always give this song a listen when I need either of those things.
You’ve taken down
So many others
Oh but you’ll know my name when you see
And in these ashes I’m stronger still
You’ll learn to fear my pain, yeah you will.
You’ll learn to fear my pain, yeah you will, yeah you will, yeah you will.
We’re the fire, from the sun
We’re the light when the day is done
We are the brave, we are the chosen ones
We’re the diamonds, diamonds
We’re the diamonds, diamonds
We’re the diamonds, diamonds
We’re the diamonds, diamonds
Rising up out the dust.
PS, I like the Moodys, too.
Marilyn McCoo, “Last Night’”:
“I heard your number ringing
I wernt cold inside.”
Same here.
And speaking of Enya…
“Winter lies before me
Now you’re so far away.
In the darkness of my dreaming
The light of you will stay.”
For me it’s Rob Thomas’ All That I Am. Mostly it’s the soaring orchestra accompanying his vocals giving the song an enormous build and climax (very sexual, yes). But also the lyrics:
I am the sound of love’s arriving
Echoed softly on the sand
Lay your head upon my shoulder
Lay your hand within my hand
I give you all that I am
And I breathe where you breathe
Let me stand where you stand
With all that I am
Nights doesn’t do it for me at all.
However, Forever Autumn does. And the paired up songs (at least in the music videos) of Your Wildest Dreams and I Know You’re Out There Somewhere.
But to go back even further - Kathy’s Song by Simon and Garfunkel.
I grew up with the Moodies (my brother, for some reason, is a huge fan and he’s only 40) and yeah all their stuff is great and melodic, and most epic. It’s definitely the most accessible prog rock to me! “Questions” is a great one, too.
Speaking of prog, I think A Whiter Shade of Pale means nothing to me, but also everything.
