Nim's Island was quite good for the family. (No Spoilers)

Nim’s Island

My daughter had read and enjoyed the book and I don’t recall ever being disappointed by Jodie Foster so off we went today.

It was surprisingly well done and all enjoyed, my wife and I and more importantly my 10 year old daughter who read the book and my 8 year old son who had not.

Jodie was excellent and it was interesting seeing her play opposite a good child actress (Abigail Breslin) in a movie where Abigail was the real star. I was thinking Jodi was probably the second most famous and successful child star after only Shirley Temple. She did great in this movie.

I have been very critical of Dakota Fanning that many like, I found Abigail Breslin to be a very good and believable actress. In ways she reminded me of Jodi Foster as a child. I still haven’t seen Little Miss Sunshine (2006) but I understand she was excellent in that one.

The movie was funny; they avoided some obvious and blatant dumb movie slapstick and got creative when they indulged in silliness.

Anyway it was a very good family movie.

Bumpity bump. Because I just got back from taking the kids and it was, indeed, quite the enjoyable time. I’d no idea Jodie Foster was in it and she’s always a joy.

While somewhat light on plot I thoroughly liked it. The tension and the interaction between Foster and Abigail Breslin was both convincing and heart-tearing at times.

Brilliant, just brilliant. I heartily recommend it to all.
