So yesterday was nintendos turn to show off the new goods. There isn’t a lot to go on right now, but I am geeked at the idea of complete backwards capability.
In addition to playing all of your gamecube games…
In addition to improved graphics yada yada yada that come with a new system, you will be able to put all of the old zelda games, Donkey Kong Country, etc. on your teeny tiny revolution. Time to start hoarding my pocket change.
Oh yeah, they also gave more info on the new Zelda. There’s yer trailer. Whattaya waiting for?
The Zelda game looks great, but what’s the deal with the werewolf? I can’t wait for the horseback battles; I didn’t think that particular feature was used very effectively in Ocarina of Time.
The new console seems quite impressive. I guess backwards compatibility is the new trend now - not that I have any problem with that.
It doesn’t have the wow factor of its competitors, appearance-wise, at least.
It doesn’t matter, though. We’ll own all three when they get released. Considering the XBox won’t be backwards-compatible, it’s looking as though we’ll have FIVE consoles (I still play a game on the Dreamcast, believe it or not) connected at once. Whee.
Yeah, the graphics are nothing to get excited about, but Nintendo’s in-house development has a great track record for solid gameplay, so that makes up for it. But the Revolution would not be my one-and-only “deserted island” console choice…
Trend? It should be standard on all consoles nowadays.
And as for the idea of playing the classics, IIRC Nintendo said those titles would be downloadable. Can I assume that they won’t be free (since Nintendo wants me to buy the games I already own…)?
It’s likely, but it’s worth it no matter the cost. There are quite a few NES, SNES, and N64 games that I would love to play. I just don’t feel like having five systems bouncing around the television (ps2 and gamecube also).
Oh, I agree; I’m just jumpy. The last console I had before the Gamecube was a SNES; I remember how quickly NES cartridges disappeared once that console was released, even though they were still selling a redesigned NES console.
On a side note, I thought the Xbox 360 was supposed to play original Xbox games too; maybe I misread.
Hopefully, the next Mario Kart game (there will be another Mario Kart, right?) will bring back the “ghost” mystery-box item. Does anyone remember that from Mario Kart 64? There was another mystery box item that didn’t make it to Double Dash!! that I miss, but for the life of me, I can’t remember what it is.
Actually, given how infrequently I play anything other than PSX games on my PS2, I think I’ve already purchased my last console. At least until I’ve got kids.
