Nipple Injury Help! (tmi)

So I was playing with my 5 month old golden retriever puppy today, and I had something she wanted but wouldn’t give it up, so she lashed out on the closest thing - my nipple (I’m a female, and I had a shirt but no bra on).

The bite was extremely painful, and while I can’t see any marks, there is indeed blood coming out from my nipple. I’ve got a bit of a burning sensation and am aching from my shoulder to my neck and across my chest on the right side (where the bite was). It’s not oozing blood bit there was enough of it to rub off on my hand. Now after about an hour it’s still hurting just as much and the nipple itself is turning white and sort of permanently “in the on position.” I put some anti-bacterial cream and a band-aid on it.

So now that you are all familiar with my nipples (pictures will cost you), I’ve got a few questions. i’m not going to call a dr unless something gets worse, but maybe someone here has had a similar experience and can help quell my fears:

  1. Anything else I should do, other than keep it clean and covered with anti-bacterial cream?
  2. Can I take ibuprofen or tylenol for the pain? Which?
  3. How is the nipple when it comes to healing?
  4. If it doesn’t seem to “heal” which do I call - my GP or my Gyno?
  5. Could I have permanently damaged my nipple and all those thousands of nerve endings?

Thanks in advance for any help/info.

I’m not a doctor, so i’ll leave the advice to the experts except that it probably isnt all that bad, just painful. take whatever for the pain you prefer, i prefer budweiser with frequent dosages.
I cant help but add that you could always ask someone to kiss it and make it all better, and i’m sure you could get some assistance.

So the dog bit you, or scratched you? Bit you?

IMO you should have washed it out good with soap and water–dog bites can be extremely bacteria-laden.

It isn’t bleeding hard enough to need stitches? Well, that’s something, anyway.

I don’t suppose it matters whether you take Tylenol or ibuprofen–whatever works for you.

If it gets infected (see below), contact a GP, would be my call.

As far as permanent damage, if it doesn’t heal right, you’ll need a plastic surgeon I suppose, but your nipple has lots of nerve endings, I’d be really surprised if you’ve done anything that will affect future breast-feeding. It may just be permanently “on”.

And anyway, I googled “torn nipple” and lo and behold what comes up is “nipple piercing aftercare”. …besides about a million B & D porn hits…

And since you are probably feeling very sad, and since Googling “Dog bites nipples” turned it up, I will now share the Woman Surprised With Peanut Butter On Crotch and Nipples For Her Dog’s Delectation UL with you to cheer you up.

So that’s what causes “puppy breath”?

You might want to give your OB/GYN a call just to be on the safe side–infections in that particular area can be extrememly painful so you’re better safe than sorry. Don’t be surprised if it hurts a lot for a while, it’s a sensitive area and will take a little time to heal. I got a spider bite on my nipple a few months ago and it took a couple of weeks before it stopped hurting.

As for the peanut butter thing–do you think she used smooth or chunky? Just curious.
