hi all! i’ve never been on this site before! i would like to know when my nipple ring will stop hurting. right now it’s off limits to my boyfriend amd it hurts when it rubs on my bras. it’s over a year old, rarely gets crusties and looks healed from the outside. i wash it with dial soap andsalt soak it from time to time. also, when i wash it, after i get the crusties off the outside, is it ok to rotate the cbr (ring) to let it lymph out a bit? the ring is steel, and the diameter is correct. i’m not big chested, so it’s not rubbing on my bras. willl i have to take it out? that would be a shame!
I would have to say it should have stoped hurting by now. When I had mine done it was sore for about 2 months, but now you can tug, pull, and twist and it doesn’t hurt. Actually it is a rather pleasurable thing. I’m a male so that may make a difference.
The only thing I can think is that it hasn’t healed properly. My ring never get’s crusties, nor does it leak lymph. I would suggest going to a doctor or the people who did the piercing and have them check it.
I agree with Azargoth, it should be healed by now. Mine felt fine by the end of the first week I got it. It hasn’t had crusties since then(that was 6 years ago). However, I too am a male, and that probably makes a difference with this kind of thing. If it’s really been a year and it still hurts and needs that much cleaning, I’d say get it checked out. Was it done at a reputable place?
I had my nipple pierced for nine months, and it still hadn’t healed. I decided my body was rejecting it, and I took it out. If you decide to remove it, I suggest asking other intelligent Dopers how they’ve done it. Sometimes I’m not so bright, and the way I did it left me aching and passed out on the floor.
My fiance had his nipple peirced in January 2000 and it took over a full year to stop being sore. It was slightly pussy and crusty off and on, some days were worse than others.
He decided to take it out, but before doing so, he went to a clinic and got antibiotics to clear up any infections BEFORE he was going to take the ring out, so not to trap anything nasty in there while it healed and cause an abcess.
It ended up all he needed was a dose of penecillan and it cleared right up. He didn’t take it out and still has it now.
I’d call a reputable peircing place and see what they recommend
Pus? Crust? Blechh! This has been going on for a year? Good god, Fluffy! Hie thee to a physician, girl!
 Oh Lord! I agree with acsenray…Nothing should ever hurt for that long. I got mine done and it was fine after the first couple of weeks (I’m a girl). Lady Venom’s advice also sounds very wise. Good Luck!
My husband got both his done at the same time-- one healed right up and the other took a loooong time. Perhaps partially due to different treatment (ie. messenger-bag strap goes on which side?) make sure it’s not getting any odd trouble from bra, straps, whatever. Are you taking zinc supplements? I am told that helps a bit for some reason.
thanks all for the info. i’ll head to my piercer ASAP. it was done in a very reputable place, and has been checked out since by the piercer. chicken… exactly how the hell did you manage to injure yourself taking the ring out? you just pop the bead off, lube it up with neosporin and thread it out. make a note of this.
WARNING…the following story will make you go eeeeeeh.
A friend of mine in Berlin years ago got both his nipples pierced early one Saturday morning.
That same Saturday night he went to the disco (ok…it was quite a few years ago) had a few drinks and decided he would proudly rip off his tshirt to show his studdly new studs.
His shirt got caught on BOTH rings.
He was screaming with pain and had to be taken to the bar area where the bartender carefully took a scissors and cut his tshirt off around both nipples.
It was the funniest, but grossest thing any of us had ever seen.
Needless to say, it wasn’t my friend’s finest moment, or memory, either.
He later admitted the man who had done the piercing had warned him it would take a couple of weeks to fully heal, and he should be extra careful during that time.
Re: OP - I agree with all the others above - a few weeks to fully heal is considered normal - a year ain’t.
