Bialk should stick to neuroscience. There was a clip with her on The Dish this week and it was awful.
I’m trying to imagine the rules Sheldon would lay down before copulation. No whistling, for one. It’d have to be scheduled. There’d probably be electrodes somewhere too, for charting later. What else?
One of my favorite parts was that there was an audible gasp from parts of the audience at the mention of Stan Lee’s autograph. I think the show is drawing in a heavily geek crowd.
It would be funny to get some of these really educated rockers to come on and throw around some lingo from their fields. Members of The Offspring and Bad Religion have advanced science degrees. They nerds could get dragged to a concert of (presumably a fictional) band, meet the band, and find out that they relate on science topics, letting them party with the band and feel cool.
What threw me out of the episode was the ending. There is no way that Sheldon would have slept in Leonard’s room. This is a man who throws out perfectly made French Toast becuase it’s oatmeal day. Sleep in someone else’s room without massive planning and preparation? Unthinkable!
But yeah, if Sheldon ever does do the horizontal bop, it will involve electrodes. And flow charts. And probably a Wonder Woman outfit.
Yeah, I’m not sure why “Nobody is supposed to be in my room!” was never uttered. I mean, I know why, because it set up the joke better, but it really did break character for him to even let her in.
I think it shows how utterly unthinkable it would be for Sheldon to participate in what is obviously one of those primitive copulation rituals. He knew exactly what was going on, and his aversion to it far outweighed any aversion he’d have over sleeping in Leonard’s room.
Penny regularly forces him to compromise his personal compulsions and idiosyncrasies. She makes him drive her and sing to her, for crying out loud.
The fact he so easily said “I’ll sleep in Leonard’s room” just underscores how averse he was to a woman in his room, because we know how he’d normally react to the idea.
I think it was a nod to her obvious geek cred. Sheldon was comfortable with her.
I see Sheldon as more likely to end up back at the sperm bank than to actually procreate with a partner. No way would he survive having diapers in the place!
Sheldon is asexual, because he’s childlike. He’s brilliant but had the emotional development of a child. You notice how he how in other episodes, Penny bribes him with a comic book, and in this episode, it’s toys that cause him to change his mind.
His mind knows what sex is, but like a child before puberty, he can’t see what the big deal is about
You can’t really judge Sheldon’s pathology, because the writers keep changing it to be funny, as Oredigger77 rightly points out.
That said…The fact that Sheldon did peek at (the hero always peeks) and was able fondle Penny might be because he has no respect for her, unlike the fabulous geek chick. It’s possible, given Sheldon’s Bible-belt upbringing he has an advanced Madonna/whore complex.
Danica McKellar is still cute as can be. A passable episode. I know Leonard is supposed to be a geek - but even I know that once you promise not to laugh at a woman you don’t then laugh and make fun of her psychic.
I don’t think stealing a peak necessarily means anything. I have stolen a peek at people I’m not at all attracted to . . . even people not of my preferred gender . . . just out of curiosity. I think psychologically he hasn’t reached puberty yet.
Unfortunately, we had a houseguest who had never seen BIG BANG THEORY. This was a crappy one for an introduction, since all the jokes depended on knowing the characters. Sigh. Gotta tell him to Netflicks the first season, I suppose.
It does make me wonder how this show is so high-rated, since most of the humor would only be appreciated by us nerds.
I caught the show sporadically and didn’t much care for the Howard and Raj characters. Raj was too dorky and Howard was just skeevy. I was given the DVDs for Christmas, and watching from the beginning has made me appreciate them more. Raj is a sweetie and Howard – well, he’s slightly less skeevy. There was an episode where he wasn’t in his usual outlandish outfit, his hair was mussed, he wasn’t trying to hit on someone and he was actually kinda cute. Leonard is funnier too.
ETA: I wish they’d occasionally have some different kinds of nerds. The math and science are way over my head (I’m dumber than Penny) and I’d like to see them interact with a book nerd, and a movie nerd who watches something other than SF/fantasy. I’d also like to see Sheldon interact with a kitten or a puppy.
