Darn multitasking. Let me fix that…
I interpreted that as even though the donor preferred anonymity, it was far too generous a gesture to go unrecognized and at least the deed would be mentioned irregardless of the donor’s desire.

lieu, you got it right. Doperfriend would never post something like this. So his punishment for his good deed is me blabbing it to a couple thousand people we know on the SDMB.
Yay, Doperfriend!!
I wonder if the mods would allow a sock-puppet just in this one instance, with pre-approval, so we could have an “Ask the Kidney Donor” thread?
As a person who someday may stand in need of such a gift, all I can say is** WOW!!!**
What a wonderful thing to have done.
So is doperfriend right now waking up in a hotel bathtub filled with ice with a note written in lipstick on his forehead saying “Call 911 now!”?
I kid, I kid…
Takes an enormous amount of courage to do what he did.
Makes me want for some fava beans and a nice chianti…
was that kidney? i forget.
Still, wow is all I can say. That’s the kind of person makes you just say - wow.
Actually, we thought about having the recipient write him a note like this. Instead, Doperfriend got a T-shirt that reads “I donated a kidney, and all I got was this lousy T-shirt” while the recipient got one with a diamond on it with the words “Kidney on Board”. (Think of the “baby on board” signs that were so popular.)
Liver, not kidney.
I wish your friend and the recipient all the best in their recoveries. That is wonderful. Not enough people donate organs even after death, so to endure such an operation during life is especially admirable!
