No Hot Cross Buns in Seattle

Despite searching all over the north side and making a trip to the renowned Sultan Bakery, hot cross buns are nowhere to be found in this metro area. Hot cross buns, of course, are a sweet bun with a cross of icing on the top which are available in NORMAL cities on the United States during lent.

A historical reference, including the nursery song here:

I would share my personal recipe but this is an approximation:

(We personally prefer candied dried fruit to currants.)

Also no donuts. And NO BAGELS. I would kill for a Bruegger’s. Sigh.

Easily avaiable in Austin, though. And I was told that Seattle was a civilised city.

Come to Olympia. Wagner’s has hot crossed buns, and delicious donuts. We may be smaller than Seattle, but we’re the capital of this State, and we DO have culture! Nyahh, nyahh, nyhahh.
