No Lo Contendre - MMP

I’m really worn out, but I wanted to say hi to y’all today. I took my shot last night, and it kicks my ass about 3:00 the next day.

My list of things accomplished:

Breakfast cooked. (Bacon and eggs and hashbrowns and toast.)

I got all the little stuff packed up and loaded onto the truck for storage. I took out all the shelves in the “study’s” closet. Tom painted both ceilings and both closets white, and tomorrow he will paint the walls blue. I intend to paint the trim and doors when he gets more high gloss white. He’s been sanding them down for me.

That’s it. But I’m gonna get off my butt and do the dishes and fix dinner. We’re having ham and scalloped potatoes and some vegetable. It was supposed to be asparagus, but I forgot to buy it. And I’m not going to the store!

Dunno what’s so special about it - maybe it’s the buttermilk?

10 oz Raisin bran
5 C flour
3 C sugar
5 t baking soda
2 t salt
4 eggs, beaten
1 C melted crisco

Mix all this together, then add

1 Qt buttermilk

and mix well. Store covered in the fridge (up to 6 weeks) and use as desired.

Fill muffin papers 2/3 full. Bake at 400 for 15 minutes. Makes about 6 dozen or so.

Wow! Right when I finished the dishes, someone knocked on the door and wanted to buy the motorcycle we’ve been intending to sell. It was a 1983 Honda V65 Magna with a rebuilt engine. Only 2300 miles on it. He got a good deal. And we got a big nuisance out of our garage!

Cool cash in our pocket!

Cool, Rebo! Isn’t nice to have little surprises crop up?

Thanks for the recipe, FCM. Might be the buttermilk. Seems like the baking soda would run out of steam in that period of time, though.

Well, I’m back. Dinner was nice. I think my friend will be okay because his sense of humor is intact. But it’s a crappy situation. His wife suddenly decided she didn’t want to be married anymore. There are extenuating circumstances (there always are) and he said in retrospect the signs have been there for a while. But, he gets custody of us, so that’s cool.

btw - this is my new camera

Fucking hell. Out of the blue, just like that? Oh sure, “the signs have been there for a while,” but it sounds like he was unable to see those signs except in retrospect. So this is BAM! not married no more. Goddamn.
I think I finally have an inkling of what I did to my first girlfriend.

My ads still target older women–this is getting weird.

I am here to say that my job has to be the strangest job, ever. I would post about yesterday, but I have to go do it all again today. Let me just say that pts and family are not the oddest bit, either.

And it’s 25 degrees here–a wee brisk for APRIL!
Think of me whilst you potter and take naps and generally waste time…<sigh>

I need to become independently wealthy–anyone got any ideas on that?

Personally, I’m counting on the success of loune, spats, cb, taxi, mika, drae and all those other young genius MMPers who are working for our early, very comfortable retirement.

What? That wasn’t what you had in mind, young 'uns? Get back to work!

Off to inspect the church garden before our Palm Sunday do, which starts on the lawn next door (three churches get together for this) and includes a view of our garden.

Can I join the eldery ones in being supported? I can bake, but I can’t make huge amounts of money in a high-paying job.
Off to church, then home, chores, work, sleep, work, and more chores. But I’ll have Tuesday and Wednesday off.

Karma’s a bitch, ain’t it?

I put a load of wash in the dryer, and immediately heard a loud thumping.

I washed my cell phone.

Good morning all.

I have put a pot roast in the crock pot and had my first cup of joe.

I did clean the landry room yesterday! You should all be so proud of me. I figured out why the damn hampers always looked full. The kids were putting the empty kitter litter jugs in the bottom of them. I was all :dubious:   . I can’t understand why they couldn’t walk the empty jugs to the garage. Of course they want walk the few feet from their bedrooms or bathroom to the hampers in the laundry room either. I shouldn’t be surprised.

I also washed laundry. I still have more to wash, but I’ve made very serious dent.

We went and saw Inside Man with Denzel Washington last night. It was pretty good. Well, I enjoyed it anyway. Clive Owen is kinda cute.

Bumba, I hope you’re feeling better today.

Methinks the young’ uns aren’t working hard enough. I’ve yet to receive my retirement check.

I need some more go juice.

ooopsie… (nervously checks for cell phone as she just put a load in the washer).

I’d just like to say: ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. They delivered the freakin’ mulch at church yesterday! We had absolutely no idea when it was coming and, of course, yesterday. So now there are 75 bags of mulch neatly piled on a bed where hostas will soon be coming up. I’m not even sure who was responsible for delivering the mulch. Guess I’ll be talking to our maintenance guy tomorrow…

Of course, this is the week when my co-chair is laid up following minor surgery, so it’s all up to me to figure out how to get it spread out. I’m going to get a wheel barrow and get started on it this afternoon. One of the guys is going to help during the week as well. Also, I’ll be calling the co-chair from the Baptist church next door to see if she and her hubby can come out and help as well. And I’ll be calling through the contact list of people who have expressed interest in the past. I’m thinking I’ll try to open up all the bags and dump them somewhere and then worry about spreading the mulch out later.

And Lissla, since you’re such a prolific cook and baker, I’m thinking you’ll be the one providing meals for us oldsters…

And Taters, those are some creative kids you’ve got. Kitty litter bottles in the laundry hampers? Yeah, that’s where they go…

I have decided that I am coloring my hair today. The gray is most definitely showing along the part. What clinched it was when my son said, “You have a bunch of white stuff on the top of your head. Is that hairspray or something?” Good Lord! I hate coloring my own hair. Well, it must be done.

You know, it’s funny. With all this gray showing you’d think I’d look my age. But nooooo, I still get carded at the liquor store. I must either a) look like I don’t know what the hell I’m doing in there, or b) still look somewhat young. When I was in the liquor store last weekend I got carded and laughed. I handed my driver’s license to the clerk who looked at it and then laughed as well.

I don’t want to go back to work tomorrow, dammit! Why can’t I be independently wealthy?

Lissla , don’t forget to make dinner for us young’uns. Gotta keep us around and interested somehow, right?

Woman Whose Name Rhymes With a Female Body Part , It could be worse. You could have dropped it into the toilet. At least this way, you know it’s clean.
My ancient car (an '88 Mercury Tracer with only 68000 miles on it) was doing this weird shimmy thing. I attributed it to an oil change, for it was about time and I don’t drive it around as much as I probably should. Anywhoot, when I got said oil change, one of the attendants said the steel belts were beginning to show through the tire on the outside.

Obviously, this is not good.

So, I scrounged around town, looking for a deal. Problem is, my tire is discontinued. However, there’s a place that stocks all sorts of tires relatively close by. I got a used tire for 15 bucks. I love small cars. Red Rocket (my car) now purrs like a kitten (again). No shimmy, no nothin’. It was the dastardly tire that nearly thwarted my chances of driving through Canadia to get back home for Easter.

Whew! We un-winterized the boat engine and ran it for a while. We hanked on the jib and the mizzen - the mainsail had stayed on all winter. We also removed all of our personal crap, and found a lot of stuff that FCD was certain he had, but he could never find it. Because it was on the boat, in a locker, under a bunch of stuff. So we’ve put all the off-loaded boat stuff in the boat stuff shed, and loaded some stuff in the van that needs to go to the boat (my chore this week.) We forgot to take the registration stickers, so I’ll put them on when I take the boat stuff that has to go. We’ve already told the broker that we’re not doing any repairs - the boat is for sale as is, so if the buyer can’t deal with that, the deal will be off. Because someone really doesn’t want to sell…

We’ve also loaded the trailer for the trip south. We still have to bring the sewing machine up from the basement so I can load it later this week. FCD is going to Richmond on Monday night - he’s got training on Tues-Fri - and I’ll pick him up Fri with trailer in tow, and we’ll head south. So I get to do the boat stuff and the last of the loading stuff before we hit the road.

Meanwhile, I’ve got laundry going. Dunno what else I’ll do today. I have a few projects I could attack. It’s sunny, but quite brisk out - I about froze while we were putting the sails on the boat. It’s pretty enough (looking) for gardening, but way too chilly. So indoor projects for me.

Oh, and the whole dozen muffins are eaten. Someone was blaming the cat. I think not…

I’m sitting here with hair coloring goop on my head. In about another five minutes it’ll be time to wash it all out.

There you go with all your dang productivity again **FCM. ** How can you keep up with this hectic schedule? Are you on super-duper, mega-something vitamins? I wish I had your drive when it comes to chores.

After washing this crap out of my hair, I’ll start doing laundry again. I also need to straighten up the kitchen.

Glad you got the car issue taken care of LOUNE.

Well, off to the shower with me.

Loune and Taters are showering together? What? Taters said sump’n to Loune and then said, “well off to shower with me.”

What have I done this weekend?

Want me to repeat it?

Yesterday was rainy and cool, so I lounged all day. There was a thunderstorm about twoish yesterday afternoon. Thunderstorms make me sleepy. I slept for two hours. Then I went over to friends house and had dinner. What with me being a bachelor and all this weekend they took pity on me. I did go to church this morning and I have washed and dried sheets and a load of towels. And had a nap. Oh, and I stopped at KFC and got me a two piece dinner for lunch. I be a lazy bear this weekend.

Drat. It’s my FIL’s birthday. I have to work, but Mr. Lissar is going out for dinner with the inlaws. Drat. No fair.

Hmph.

I should get ready for work.

for the record, Loune, there’s no Mulva in the MMP…
