Can someone tell me what that means?

I’m talking about the little icons next to the posts. How can there be NO new posts when I see someone’s name and that they posted TODAY at a certain time.

Thank you and I feel dumb even having to ask.

the website and your browser have to play well together. there is lots that has to be sent and remembered by both the website and your computer. just like the rest of the world there are farts, burps and faults.

I’ll make an uneducated guess. If you want, you can play around on your computer and see if this seems right:

  • you open the dope.
  • the dope looks for the cookie that it hid in your computer.
  • if it finds the cookie, it knows when you were last here.
  • any threads with new posts that were made while you were gone will be marked with the ‘new posts’ icon.
  • as long as you don’t trigger the page to reload, the icons shouldn’t change.
  • if the page is reloaded,then any threads that did not get any new posts between the page loads will be marked as ‘no new posts’. Any threads that did have new posts between the page loads should get marked ‘new posts’.

That would be my guess. I only have internet access on my phone, so can’t verify that. I also don’t know if blocking cookies would mess with the dope server keeping track of your visits.

What Snerky said, pretty much. It’s an inexact system and does not keep close track of what you’ve been looking at on the board.

Also check the date/time on your device, that may also affect what you see. This message board is set to Central Daylight Time (Chicago).
