If you view his career through an NFL lens, maybe. Bear in mind that he’s arguably the best college football player of the past 50 years, though.
How is doing a superbowl campaign for focus on the family NOT campaigning to outlaw it? i simply do not get this disconnect from what he did, just because the ad was not completely outrageous doesn’t make any less bad.
Because it didn’t say anything about outlawing it. Hell, it didn’t say anything about abortion at all. They might as well have run an ad in which Tebow told people to hug their puppies.
That’s completely ridiculous. If he’d done an ad for the KKK that said nothing about hating black people would we be wrong assuming he’s racist too? He did an ad campaign for focus on the family, it doesn’t get any more clear cut than that.
I’m not saying you did … but you just said
… which again implies that the ones who love him are all or mostly Christians.
Unless you have a cite for half of Denver having converted, it’s more accurate simply to say that a lot of people love him and a lot of people hate him, for a lot of different reasons.
Religion is one of them (as this thread is apparently demonstrating), but, as noted, I don’t think it’s the biggest reason.
Agreed. He’s not even the top college quarteback from his class.
Focus on the Family is not the KKK. I disagree with pretty much everything the Republican Party says but that doesn’t mean anyone who works with them is horrible. I disagree with everything FotF has to say but that doesn’t mean anyone who works with them is horrible.
Well, I’m not sure what you think when you see “FocusOnTheFamily.com…Celebrate family. Celebrate life.” But I can tell you what most people think. And it’s not “isn’t that cute how much mom loves her baby.” And, most importantly, that’s NOT the real message they are trying to convey, whether you, or RNATB, get that or not.
These days, around here, hate is (almost) always implied. That doesn’t make it any less despicable.
This was not the 700 club, it was the superbowl. Get your stinking Jesus out of my football.
Well, I can tell you that I’ve seen more extreme close-ups of Tebow’s eyeblack messages than I ever have of anyone else’s. I suppose those posed magazine cover photos were taken against his will?
Who was better? He had more passing yards than Sam Bradford, the same number of touchdowns, fewer picks, and 2,900 more rushing yards and 52 more rushing touchdowns.
He was the first ever sophomore Heisman winner, and had more first place votes than any player (including Bradford) as a junior. He won the Maxwell award in 2007 and 2008 - the only player to win twice since 1953.
No, it was a commercial. Aside from the fact that the Super Bowl is less a football game and more a marketing scheme, you can always go get some wings or something during commercials.
Well good for you, I’m pretty ok with thinking someone who does a superbowl ad campaign for an anti-gay and anti-choice organization is a horrible person, and don’t see them as that far off from the kkk.
I think it’s hate that makes somebody a horrible person. You might want to mull that over.
Well, yes that is exactly my point.
Anyone hear that sound?
He raises the moral and ethical standards of the Broncos by 1,000 points. Give him a break. He has religious convictions. So what? Most of the current roster are drunk driving whoremongers.

Seriously. The guy is on the wrong side of the abortion issue. He could be baby daddy to 4 kids from 3 different women, spend every weeknight making it rain at the strip club, and engage in who knows what illegal activity with his “entourage”, and most football fans would only care about how those activities will affect his high ankle sprain.
Last 50 years? John Elway, Ndomukong Suh, Hershel Walker, Bruce Smith, Warren Sapp, Joe Thomas, Billy Sims, Charles Woodson, Ron Dayne, Bo Jackson, Earl Campbell, Deion Sanders, Barry Sanders. That’s just off the top of my head.
Tebow was a system quarterback in a system that exactly fit his talents, surrounded by incredible talent. Put him on another team and he doesn’t sniff a Heisman. All the players listed above would be great on any team.
No only was Tebow a child of Christian missionaries, but his mother was also counseled to have an abortion when she was pregnant with him. I think knowing that had a lasting effect on the kid.
Yes, Bradford.
Are you actually comparing 3 seasons of Tebow vs 2 of Bradford? Really? I mean if you really want to get into it I can concede that there’s an argument that Tebow had a slightly better college career than Bradford. If I do that, will you go look up Herschel Walker?
