No plans this weekend -- Where should I go?

Yup, I have no plans for this 4th of July weekend, and since tomorrow’s a half-day at work, that leaves me with practically four-days to fill. And this is where you come in.

So I’m thinking about packing my backpack and just riding my motorcycle somewhere…anywhere, for the weekend. Although I’ve never tried it before, I plan on using CouchSurfing.com to find (free) housing along the way.

But I have no idea where I should go. I’ll be starting from San Francisco, and ideally would like to ride to anyplace that’s 1) Awesome (or really cool) and 2) Warmer than San Francisco.

Any suggestions? (and I don’t know if it matters, I’m 23 and male)

Dunno. Sounds like a good excuse to just start driving South and keep an eye out for anything that looks interesting. I somewhat think that unless you’re a golfer, there’s really nothing South of San Francisco that is a competitor with San Francisco for things to do nor scenery. But, driving around randomly you might happen into something really weird like “Big Bob’s Denture History Museum” or whatever. Little things like that can be surprisingly better and more interesting that big attractions.

I suppose there’s the San Diego Zoo and Disneyland of course.

My family used to go up to Columbia, a fixed up gold mining town. You can go horse riding, pan for gold, crawl in the twisted remnants of hydraulically mined stone, and get some sarsparilla. But I’m not sure how exciting a location that would be for a single male, nor that it would be warmer than San Fran.

Go to Tahoe. Awsome fireworks, cheap food and plenty of woods to camp in. Not too far of a drive for you, straight up 50 (80 is just plain ugly!) Hell, I might even get up there myself to chop a little wood and I’ll have a beer with you!

What are you riding?

North to Southern Oregon. On the coast for temperate weather or up to Ashland for warmer, shopping, and Shakespeare.
