No Poll -- CFB Week 4 Top Ten discussion

After Week 3’s lack of surprises, and seeing the Week 4 schedule for Top Ten teams, does anybody see anything worth getting excited about?

If Clemson is going to pull a “Clemson” it’ll be this week at the 'Pack. Only thing I’ve got - other than a general annoyance at the AP voters. I still say that 1 loss should be an automatic “outside the Top 10” at this stage in the season.

In any case that’s a game to watch on a Thursday.

I plan to watch the Auburn-LSU game and the Tennessee-Florida game for potential surprises, and the only Top Ten game with a chance of excitement is the
Arizona State-Stanford one, but I doubt if I’ll predict an upset there.

I keep wondering who’s going to take “the Belt” away from Baylor. I doubt it will be ULM. See http://collegefootballbelt.com/index.htm for more details.

Anything can happen in the SEC, but Auburn mustered just enough offense to beat Miss State at the end of the game. LSU is a whole 'nother kettle of fish. Better on both sides of the ball, and should easily handle Auburn.

NC State and Arizona State have at least theoretical shots at the upset, but I would not bet on either of them.

If you’re still planning which games (if any) you’re wanting so see at least the first quarter of, perhaps 5 things to know about Week 4 in college football can persuade you in a direction away from the ranked teams and their cushy contests.

I think I may look into the Arkansas game during the commercials and dead spots in the Tennessee game. Fortunately for my teams, they’re spread out enough that I won’t have to miss a favorite (or DVR it) while another favorite is on. Nine times out of ten when I record a game to watch after my preference has played on another channel, I’ll just go by the score and not watch it after all.

This week has precious few conflicts of that sort. Seeing the scores is going to do it for most of them.

Can you imagine spending the money and doing all the driving and parking and crowd maneuvering to see most of these “ranked games” in real life?

Maybe now Alabama will be distracted by Nick Saban talking to a regent from Texas. They have the money to hire him away, it’s been a while since Saban dumped a team, sounds like we’ll soon hear Saban vehemently deny he’s leaving, at which time you can put money on it.

If Saban does leave, I’d love for him to replace Kiffin at USC.

If I had to guess, I’d say Saban is pulling a Les Miles and using another offer to get more money from his employer. But given Nick Satan’s tendency to pack up and move every few years, I wouldn’t be shocked if he left.
