When I was a kid, we had four cats. All of them were fond of cake, especially the light, buttery ‘crust’ of a sponge cake or Swiss Roll. They also adored Cheddar and Edam cheese. At evening meals, they would take turns to sit on the spare seat at the dining table and swipe food from my mum’s plate. Tigger liked peas and sweetcorn. Late in his life, B.C developed a taste for cold milky tea.
Before we knew we had to be more careful with them, a very young Marble (kitty) jumped onto a counter where we had a batch of frosted cupcakes waiting to be taken to an event at Phil’s place of business. We found when on our next visit to the kitchen a cupcake, completely licked clean of frosting.
Other “strange, I didn’t know cats like those” foods/items:
Chestnut likes…bread, Cheetos, some tortilla chips, black olives, pop tarts and Krispy Kremes
Shadow (my mom’s old cat) liked spaghetti/pasta (watching a cat chase and then suck down a long strand of spaghetti is a treat to behold)
Shadow and Marble both like to lick towels containing sport’s medicines like Icy Hot and Bengay
Sunshine used to lick dryer sheets
Rusty, the newest addition to our kitty family, likes ALCOHOL! He has tried to sneak/drink both Margaritas and Pina Colados. He also goes for the creme in Krispy Kreme chocolate-cremes.
Can we have a link to a photo of this Rusty please?
That’s like asking a Grandma if she has a picture of her grandkids!
Scroll down or look here.
He’s beautiful!
I’ve printed those photos,as my son loves orange cats especially.
Thanx.
Me too. They’re my weakness…they just look up at me, and I melt…
Vanilla, you may want to look at Sunshine’s memorial too…sad, but his photos are SO sweet.
I thought my Princess was the only weirdo in the world to do that! And she goes into this “zone” after she’s had a good lick, too. The only parallel I can give for this behaviour is if you’ve ever seen a dog who’s found something reaaallly nice (to a dog nose) to roll in.
It has been a while since there’s been a photo chez moi that isn’t hermetically sealed. Occasionally she finds one, though. What is it? Is Kodak producing catnip oil as a fixer or something?
We once had a cat that brought home “gifts” of apricots from the neighbor’s tree. (I suspect he brought home the ones that had fallen, and didn’t actually climb to get them.) If we didn’t put them away fast enough, we’d come back and find the pit licked clean, with the rest of the apricot gone, and one satisfied-looking cat licking his whiskers.
He even ate part of a peach once.
He was one weird cat.
Um, peeps-just a reminder-Chocolate is BAD for cats, mmmkay? So are onions, I’ve been told.
Our Noel licks plastic for some reason. Any kind of plastic. She’ll put it out of the garbage, and if you take it off of her she gets mad.
Ahhh…Peta, your orange kitties look like my Buffy. Only she is female, which is rare. Of orange tabbies, only one in four hundred will be female.
I’m going to make a page for my cat pictures…
I didn’t know that orange female tabbies were that rare. My parents have two.
The older one, Socks, likes to eat the following items:
*Cheese
*Donuts
*Mashed potatoes
*Butter
*Egg yolk
*Cheese Nips
*Potato chips
*Chocolate ice cream
*Meatballs in marinara sauce
*Breakfast sausage (“spicy” variety)
When she eats the last two items on the list, she tends to go around licking her lips for the rest of the day.
While I have known a cat that loved Doritos corn chips, Midnight likes Corn on the Cob!
If she hears you shucking corn she’ll run over and jump on top of the microwave oven (it’s right next to the garbage can, and is at a convenient height for her to bother you) and ask for corn husks and kernels. She sniffs and plays with the husks and eats the kernels.
Canadian Club. On the rocks. I have an alcoholic cat with expensive tastes. Won’t drink beer, and since I live alone with him, and am generally smarter than him, I can keep him from eating People Food[sup]TM[/sup].
Feline paradox. All cats are wierd, “even for a cat.”
Weird things my cats eat:
Salem:
Lunch meats (ham, roast beef, turkey)
Chicken skin
American Cheese
Cottage cheese
Fritos
Potato chips
Bugles
Iced Tea
Milk
Yogurt (any flavor)
Jack:
Lunch meats
Chicken skin
Cottage cheese
Cantaloupe
Bananas
Apples
Iced tea
Heifer:
Nothing but cat food (good kitty!)
I suppose I’ll add mine as well-
Sam (short for Samaurai- that’s “Sam are I”) ate cake through the plastic wrap, loved green beans, and drank vegetable oil.
Bleach.
I’ve seen ice cream for dogs named “frosty paws”. Now there is a feline version of it. I forget the name but it’s got a picture of a cat on the front.
Incidently, rabbits are almost like cats in regard to chewing and grooming. My daughter’s rabbit dislikes carrots and has a real taste for barbeque chips, crackers, and italian ice. She thinks asparagras sprouts are toys.
Will likes Pizza and diet coke.
He’s the quintessential frat boy. Out all night, comes home to sleep and eat.
My old cat ate crepe paper. I used to braid it into long strips and let him bat it around until he started hworfing it down one day. That stuff is nasty, too… kind of a bitter/salty flavor, bleagh!
He also liked: V-8, maple syrup, barbeque sauce, anything with tomato sauce, the runny stuff that forms on top of yogurt, the juice that tuna fish is packed in, and damn near anything off the table. We had to lock him in the basement every time we brought home Subway subs, or else he’d be in our face for the whole meal.
Man, I miss that cat.
