No Sims 3 Thread?

…at least not one I can find without search.

Story:

No way this is going to run on my system…

Isn’t that how it works now? Or by manipulate do they mean there’s more to it than using a slider. Curious indeed…

I’m glad they’re working on something other than expansion pack #273.

The Sims2 is a great game but didn’t do anything outside the home very well.

Did you have to pay a monthly fee to play The Sims online?

Oh. My. God.

I was just gearing up to buy a new computer so I could get all the Sims 2 expansion packs… (well, also because I need a new computer. But that was clearly the most important part.)

shakes fist at EA Games

Pssht. I’m still not thrilled with the performance I yank out of my box with the Sims 2. No way will this run on anything short of a brand new system.

I’m going to be a stick in the mud and say I’m not impressed. The graphics don’t look to have improved much. Being able to move around the neighborhood seamlessly is nice, but not a huge thing for me.

I will definitely need to see more before I get excited about this one.

I don’t know if they got some hands-on time with it or what, but the people over at 1UP got some deeper impressions of the gameplay changes from the last one.

Besides the graphics and the easier aesthetic options, I think what intrigues me most is the better handling of needs like bladder, fun, cleanliness: especially good or bad occurrences will pop up like buffs or debuffs (EA calls them “moodlets”) which will quickly swing your Sim’s overall Stress-Comfort meter one way or the other. It seems like it’s going to be a lot more organic, and hopefully this time there will be less sleep-pee-eat-work-eat-sleep gameplay if they balance the time a bit better. Of course, anything they break will surely be fixed through user mods.

On the other hand, the fact that this announcement comes right after they announced the huge Sims 2 deluxe pack is a bit of a kick in the teeth. Why should I pay full price for the (finally) complete(-ish) Sims 2 when Sims 3 is now getting me so excited? Seems like I’d be wasting my time. EA fails at timing :frowning:

I think they’ve got a problem graphics-wise, in that really they can only improve with better texturing and the like (which they do seem to, IMHO). Making it more realistic would rob it of a lot of the style of the series.

Besides, the current lot chug along on my system enough as it is.

Yeah, I like this change too. Seems more lifelike. In the old system, what you’re actually doing is keeping a bunch of clocks wound up and trying to keep them from running down. Real life, you forget about your bladder until you gotta pee.

Don’t much care for this notion that there might be some buildings only NPCs can enter, though. And surely the game won’t be tracking offstage actions that closely? Not only would that burn out most CPUs (I think), it would also take too much of the game play out of the player’s hands.

I don’t know if this has enough differences from the Sims 2 for me to buy it, at least not right away. I mean, when the Sims 2 came out, it was so different and had so many options that the Sims did not have. What this has to offer doesn’t sound that thrilling to me. Especially being able to freely roam neighborhoods. From the sound of it, you’ll be able to be in the common areas with your sims, but if they go into a clothing store, for instance, you won’t be able to follow along with them. What’s the point then?

Also, like some others have noted, there’s no way in hell my system could run this. I have a hard enough time running the Sims 2 and my expansion packs (I have Uni, Nightlife, OFB, Pets, and Seasons).

Sweet jesus, there is no way I could run this, I’m already pushing it with the Sims 2 with expansions up though the vacation one.

I agree with yellowval, it doesn’t seem to have the big jump in game play the way it did between the The Sims and Sims 2. I will be pretty content to wait and see what people think after it is released. I’m sure I will covet it regardless, but it will sting a little less if the changes are not so extreme.

To be fair, going from 2D to 3D is a level of change we can’t meet again without fully fledged VR (and who wants to play a life sim game in VR? At that point you could just leave the house…).

If the sim personalities and the behavior systems and requirements change that much, though, I’ll be impressed enough to try it out. I’ve always wanted more options where the jobs go, myself – maybe a little minigame to get bonus your-boss-loves-you points or something. I also think everyone else would hate that. :stuck_out_tongue:

You’ve been able to sleep with your maid, now they should make it so you can sleep with your secretary!

A few things I’d like to see:

A way to set who the Sim would find sexually attractive, both in looks and personality. Instead of just, “redheads and perfume,” it would indicate gender, physical size, hair and eye color, physical shape (i.e. ripped abs or normal muscles or unmuscular or whatever.) Sliders would be great.

The ability to place objects wherever, without the need for squares. Allowing objects at angles is good, but being able to scoot a coffee table closer or further away from a couch and angle the recliner just so would be awesome.

More intelligence. I’d love to be able to watch my Sims as if they were ants in a farm sometimes and not have them fall apart if I leave them alone for a little while to fix something to eat. Seriously, should I really have to tell you to stop watching TV and go to work just because your fun meter is low? Are you really so dumb that you’d rather get fired than stop watching that football game?

Homework! Sim children should not be allowed to stop doing their homework just because their fun meter is low. I don’t give a damn if you want to go out and play, young lady. You’re not going anywhere until your homework is done!

OK, here’s one I’d really think was awesome. What if Sims TV shows were tied to a youtube-like channel where people could upload short Sims machinimas? Your Sims would always have something new to watch, and you’d be able to see other people’s shows.
