Anyone still playing the Sims 3? What do you think of it?
We finally have a computer that can handle it, so I ordered the Sims 3 Deluxe from Amazon. I’m excited about it - it seems like forever since I’ve played the Sims! I’ll have to wait a little longer though - it won’t arrive until Tuesday.
Are any of the other expansion packs worth it? I had expected the price to drop more quickly, but it seems like the expansion packs have come out much more slowly than they did with the previous Sims games. Do you need the “stuff” ones? I had heard that there was a lot less stuff included in the base game - is it something that really impacts game play?
I have the Sims 3: Ambitions expansion and do feel that it was worth the price. It lets you actually do something for your career instead of just disappearing for the day. For those who are really into the decorating aspect of the Sims, there’s an ‘‘interior design’’ ambition where you basically go into others’ homes and rearrange them on a budget. That’s fun, but I’m pretty lousy at it.
I don’t have any of the other expansions but I did buy the ‘‘High End Loft Stuff’’ furniture package. I don’t think it’s necessary to buy more furniture, but I could see how others would feel limited by the available options.
I don’t want to spoil your enthusiasm, but I really didn’t like The Sims 3. I was a big fan of The Sims 2 but the thing I enjoyed most about it was jumping from House to house and playing different sorts of people and families is not really how The Sims 3 works.
With The Sims 3, basically you play as one family because is you leave them to play someone else, your character still does things but under the AI control. You can turn this off but then basically everything becomes frozen in time and that isn’t fun either.
I didn’t hate the game but found I regretted uninstalling The Sims 2.
In my current game I wanted to play a new house with people from my former game in the game also, but I didn’t want to lose all the progress I made, so I just copied over my original game.
I felt the same way. I like controlling a neighborhood, and thought the Sims 3 would let all the households age in real time, but didn’t realize you’d come back, and find that one of your families had changed jobs, or had a baby, or moved all on its own.
From time to time, I get into it intensely for 3 or 4 days in a row. Agreed that Ambitions adds a lot to gameplay. It’s fun to be a stay-at-home author, or a Private Investigator.
I bought World Adventures when it came out, but have only recently gotten into actually doing the adventures. And have discovered it is addictive fun, especially if you like Zelda-type dungeon puzzles. They’re not really difficult, but most are very involved, and I’ve had to spend a couple of different vacations getting through one set of challenges. Also, the Shang Simla vacation world is gorgeous. I was stupefied the first time I traveled there, and still love just looking around when i visit.
Late Night is not my fave. I don’t like the vampires–who are invading all the neighborhoods–and the town that came with the EP is pretty laggy. It has been somewhat fun to create my own neighborhood bars and swim clubs in the other towns, though.
But beware—the stuff from the exchange has a lot of stuff (usually clothes) that will range from showering with clothes on to actually crashing your game. The exchange isn’t policed by EA, and it still has a lot of crap on it.
Good intentions, poor execution. The game randomly assigns “projects” to houses even if the sims living there don’t want or need the improvements. You are better off just building houses in Edit mode. I don’t want to have to “improve” houses I’ve already built myself.
I’ve had projects that wanted you to add a TV even though the house already had 3, and stuff like that.
Those who are having problems saving their games (usually error 12), look for Twallan’s Story Progression mod and resource file. It’s a package that replaces EA’s story progression, which is reportedly the source of those errors. Haven’t played much yet since installing the package but haven’t seen any more errors.
Oh, and the Pets expansion was released a few weeks ago. Dogs, cats, horses, and a new town!
