No sound on YouTube on my laptop?

I have sound on Netflix and other streaming apps on my HP, but nothing on YouTube. Tried the troubleshooter, sound is turned on, etc. Nothing. Any clues?

Follow-up: I have sound when I use MS Edge, but not Chrome.

a) Try a different web browser. Same issue? If not, could be plug-ins (ad blockers etc) or corrupted prefs / corrupted cookies.

b) You refer to “other streaming APPS on your HP”; are you, in fact, using your web browser to stream videos with sound from Netflix, and the sound works fine? It’s the reference to “apps” that’s throwing me off here; to me, Edge is an “app”; Google Chrome is an “app”; Safari is an “app”. Netflix is a web site / web service.

c) Create a different user account (new Windows account or new MacOS account). Launch web browser, go to YouTube. Sound?

d) Do you have any type of widget that displays sound levels?

I’m talking about when I go to the NFLX or Hulu website, the sound works fine. See my previous post about using Edge. It appears that it’s Chrome that is the problem.

Okay, I went and cleared browsing data, including cookies, etc. and it looks like sound is back for youtube.

Do you use an ad blocker, if so, which one.
I had a similar problem a few weeks ago where the sound would not play on some videos on Chrome. I found that if I muted the sound using the speaker icon at the bottom left and then unmuted it, the sound came back. I blamed it on the ads war that Youtube is currently waging. I have not had the issue for at least two week now. I use AdBlock Plus

:+1:

Yeah, spoiled cookies or cached sound preferences that are ignoring what you’re telling it to do at the moment.

Two ad blockers, so twice the fun: Adblock and Ublock Origin. Thanks for the help, friends, although I was sorta looking for an excuse to buy a new laptop.
