No Stealth Bragging in This Thread

That’s the person who manages copyrights for books originally published abroad, or is it in a completely different business?

No you’re sort of right. But in addition they sell their authors works in other markets, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Asia. This means attending major Book Fairs like London and Berlin, basically circulating in the deep waters of publishing connections, internationally.

It’s been a blast, witnessing a meteoric rise into the thin air of the profession!

I lost about 100 lbs. See:

Fatso!

Not so fatso

And I’m getting a 15% raise in October!

Congratulations! You look spectacular! You should be righteously proud!

I was in Forbes today. Second time this year!

Our (Typo Knig’s and mine) son, “Dweezil”, is going to college in 3 weeks.

It’s just shy of 15 years from the date when we were told that the odds of him even finishing high school were… suboptimal (he’d just been diagnosed with autism).

I feel like the old man in the confessional:

om: Father, this is my confession. I had sex 12 times with an 18 year old girl
priest: My son, when was your last confession?
om: This is my first one. I’m Jewish!
priest: My son, I don’t understand. If you’re Jewish, why are you here in Confession, telling me this?
om: Are you kidding? I’m telling EVERYBODY!

I just jumped several steps and went from Admin Assistant to Administrator.

To be fair, I’ve been doing the work for a while now but it’s good to make it official.

I’ve also built the role up from a part-time role to the point where the next funding increase is ear-marked (by my boss and our Board of Trustees) for my shift into full-time work with a pay increase.

Wow! Congratulations.

Congratulations to all of you!

Serious, serious envy here. Have a great time! And is any of available online?

Life is pretty good right now.

Got a 5% merit raise when only the top rated people got raises this year.
We are now officially trying to create new humans (also Go maggie!)
The federal government has quit moving at the speed of smell and we got our interview appointment next month for our Greencard application for me
I got given some new/extra responsibilities at work as my bosses bosses boss saw I was being under utilized ie I happened to mention to someone how bored I was. The new project is a bit of a PITA but it is keeping me busy and putting me in front of the right people to impress and giving me new skills and in two weeks of doing it I have all the basis covered into Q1. Next year when they had no clue what was going on before. Can you say promotion beckoning?
I love my hubby lots we have been through a lot together and still come out the other side smiling.

Thanks for the explanation, elbows. I love learning about how different industries work, it’s one of the things I enjoy about being a consultant.

Dante, you’re looking great.

anu-la, I’m officially envious. I’m also running to Forbes’ webpage.

And gratz to everybody else

Good work Dante, both on the raise and the weight loss!

Oooo! Congratulations!! When are you expecting the sound of pitty paws?

I started writing a novel on the 20th. I have to type up everything I did this weekend, but on Friday I was at 23,000 words. That’s about 2800 words a day.

With the stuff I did this weekend I’m somewhere between half and two-thirds of the way through. I plan to finish writing it this week (because starting next week I have other stuff I HAVE to work on).

Looks like mid-March. It’s going to be a busy spring…

We’ve been needing to replace our couch for some time. Comfy, but terribly ratty-looking and starting to get seriously worn and saggy. Our plan was to go to Ikea and buy something with a machine-washable cover for as cheap as possible - we were budgeting $400.

Get a call Friday morning from my father-in-law, whose new hobby now that he has retired is estate-sale combing. He found us a nice-looking couch in a very pretty brown leather, for A HUNDRED AND FIFTY BUCKS!!! Not only that, but when we went to go pick it up, the homeowner was in the process of frantically trying to get rid of random crap, so for absolutely no more money, we walked out of there with two floor lamps, a cast-iron skillet (fairly well seasoned already), a glass lidded casserole dish, and a bunch of random wrapping paper (including one roll with a very pretty design I’m looking forward to using). She was practically stuffing things into my arms - I felt like I’d hit some sort of jackpot!

I have already napped on the couch with a cat. Comfy.

Dang Purple, that kind of blows mine right out of the water. Awesome!

I recently won a live trivia tournament playing alone against 12 other teams, most of which had 4 or more people per team(One of them was a team of 8 teachers from the local university),they asked the emcee to see if I was cheating with my cell phone,I don’t own one.
I went back the next week to play again and overheard a woman on her cell saying “MadTheSwine is back,we need help.” I won that contest also.

Now that is wonderful! Congrats!

And congrats to all the rest of you as well.

I don’t know if anyone remembers that I decided last year to go back to college to earn a degree after years working for near minimum wage. I enrolled for spring semester and earned a 3.75 GPA and made the Dean’s List. This is the first time I have ever received honors for my schoolwork, probably since elementary school. I’m just about a week away from finishing up a couple of summer courses in which I am currently have A’s in both, one of which is the second of two algebra courses that scared the living daylights out of me. I’m so proud of myself for doing so well in the math classes. As a matter of fact, I just aced my first math test ever last week!

If anyone would have told me 20 years ago that I would eventually earn a 4.0 in two separate math classes, I would have asked for a hit off of whatever primo greens they were smoking.
