Norway seems to have something in the news recently, as I recall. Pretty big deal.
As for recent things, news begets news. One event happens and people copy it. If there was big huge news event about someone assaulting people in malls with a sledgehammer, within a month there would be five similar events.
The United States has had something like 50 or 60 mass shootings in the last 30 years. Norway needs to step it up if they’re going to hang with the big boys.
India’s population is about 1.2 billion - that’s almost four times the population of the United States. I’ll just go ahead and assume they’ve had about 200 mass shootings in the last 30 years — you know, just to keep things even.
Nah, I think their crazies would stick to what they do now, which is bomb shit. Since you insist on comparing apples and grapefruits here, I’d like to point out that in Mumbai alone there have been 15 bombings in the past ten years.
Say, maybe if there were more bomb materials in the US, the US could really shine and and reach that 1.5 bombings annually mark, huh? I sure am glad we can’t get bomb materials in the US
Mumbai:
12 March 1993 - Series of 13 bombs go off, killing 257
6 December 2002 - Bomb goes off in a bus in Ghatkopar, killing 2
27 January 2003 - Bomb goes off on a bicycle in Vile Parle, killing 1
14 March 2003 - Bomb goes off in a train in Mulund, killing 10
28 July 2003 - Bomb goes off in a bus in Ghatkopar, killing 4
25 August 2003 - Two Bombs go off in cars near the Gateway of India and Zaveri Bazaar, killing 50
11 July 2006 - Series of seven bombs go off in trains, killing 209
26 November 2008 to 29 November 2008 - Coordinated series of attacks, killing at least 172.
13 July 2011 - Three coordinated bomb explosions at different locations, killing 26
Pune:
13 February 2010 - a bomb explosion at the German Bakery in Pune killed fourteen people, and injured at least 60 more
1 August 2012 - four bomb explosion at various locations on JM Road, Pune injured 1 person
0.6 murders per 100k inhabitants (intentional homicide rate). Note, I’ve never advocated just comparing mass murders, as that’d be susceptible to the spotlight fallacy.
I’m not the one who tied national population to gun violence; that was Chimera. He compared the ratio of the population between the US and Norway to the ratio of shootings in the two countries, saying “that’s sounds about even to me.”
It doesn’t sound so even when we look at countries with larger populations than the US, though does it? No, that’s when apples, grapefruits and acid attacks get bandied about.
ok, it’s late, i’ve had a rough day, and after page 5, i got tired of reading. Here is my input as a legal concealed carry license holder: I would not have shot. Fuck, in that kind of chaos you would have to be a complete fucking moron to start shooting. I’m a journalist who has embedded with the military numerous times. Buddies of mine in JSOC have said the same thing. They wouldn’t have started returning fire either. there is too much of a chance of hitting an innocent bystander. Also, I live in an apartment. My gun is loaded with bullets called Glazer Safety Slugs. They are 99% lethal on the first shot, but won’t penetrate two layers of sheetrock. Not all gun owners have a need for a metapenis (granted we are few and far between,) nor all of us bloodlusting rambo wannabes. Gohmert, though, is most definitely a dipshit and an asshole.
A final thought: not all Texans are wild west, gun slinging, rabid morons, but this is the rodeo buckle of the bible belt. Please, let a Texan speak before you decide he is some kind of inbred dipshit with a six shooter. Those just tend to be the people who can afford to get elected.
