Nobel Peace Price Announced; It Doesn't Go to Trump

It’s going to María Corina Machado, Venezuela’s opposition leader.

From CNN:

Going to be a few ketchup-stained walls at the White House this morning.

Giving it to a Venezuelan woman for promoting democracy and opposing dictatorship will trigger Trump in about 14 different ways.

Countdown to massive new tariffs against Norway…

Well, now Trump has to invade Venezuela (or else shoot down every boat or plane leaving ghe country) to prevent her from accespting the award.

Isn’t he already doing that?

Isn’t she the rival of Nicolas Maduro, one of Trump’s biggest bugbears? Doesn’t that technically make her Trump’s ally?

My bet is that he going to claim this as a victory for Trumpism and let it lie.

The Chairman of the Nobel Peace Committee will probably soon be indicted for something or other and extradited to the US. Not a US citizen and not even a resident? Doesn’t matter. He’s as guilty as Comey and Letitia James of exactly the same crime: failure to worship the Orange Peril.

Swedes rejoice that they don’t need to wear the responsibility of this one… …all the while unaware that Trump is so far gone that he couldn’t tell the difference between them and Norway anyways. Oslo and Stockholm are both invaded next week all a part of his “takeover Greenland” plan.

Cheers to Machado for the win. Venezuelan opposition sounds like a tough gig.

Trump doesn’t have ‘allies’; just people who are useful to him until they contradict or upstage him, after which they are mortal enemies like John Bolton or Michael Cohen. In this case, Maria Conchita Alonso screwed him twice by both stealing his Nobel Peace Prize and submarining his screen test as her costar in his would-be breakout role in Dark Moon Rising, sabotaging his burgeoning career as an action-horror-romance star. She’s definitely on ‘The List’.

Now I barely know of her and her work.
I’ll accept unconditionally that the award is merited.

But the symbolism is absolutely exquisite.

I apologize for not laughing at your jokes, but I’m so terrified that this will sabotage the Israel-Gaza ceasefire agreement and hostage release that I don’t have much of a sense of humor right now.

Frankly that ceasefire agreement is balanced on the head of a pin along with an indeterminate number of dancing angels and the likelihood of surviving past the next ‘phase’ is slim-to-none. Hopefully it holds together long enough for the return of the still-living hostages but I wouldn’t count past that because neither Trump nor Netanyahu have any real incentive to continue with it.

Strangely, a John Goodman line from “West Wing” came to mind:

Find her and find her fast. But if Zoey Bartlet turns up dead I don’t get that f------ Nobel Peace Prize, I’m going to blow the hell out of something, and God only knows what happens next.

—President Glenn Allen Walken

I looked in on a predominantly-RWNJ message board to see their reactions. Here they are:

Just thought I’d share.

Only an idiot would think a cease fire so freshly signed that the ink is still wet would possibly be grounds for such a prize. Sure, it’s the most politicized award with the biggest history of bad choices for winners. Diplomacy leading to an agreement on the scale of say the Good Friday Accords, sure. Not a cease fire that at best might set the situation back to the status quo ante.

I know nothing about this year’s recipient. But I’m willing to assume that she deserves it even if the award is in part a political statement.

I guess if Trump had won it, he wouldn’t need to bother about Gaza/Israel/Ukraine etc any more. The Nobel prizes can’t be revoked.

Maybe next year. If he deserves it, sure.

They should just tell trump he won, maybe buy a gilded medal off Temu, and have ChatGPT invent a news announcement he can watch. He’ll never know the difference.

I find it hilarious that he keeps lobbying for the Nobel. They fucking HATE him. And direct lobbying for the prize is the best way not to get it, even if one was “deserving”.

Maybe. I think the Israeli public and the Israeli military are weary of the war and of its effects, and would be happy for a few years of peace (or God willing, even more than a few years), and that every day that passes will make it harder for Bibi to restart the fighting on a whim. But I guess we’ll see.

Anyway, I kind of wish Trump had been given the prize. Not because I like him or because I think he deserves it, but because it would have been one less thing to worry about.

Or less snarkily, two people being opposed to someone else doesn’t make them on the same side. And Trump is a malignant narcissist who is on nobody’s side but his own. As well as a racist misogynist rapist and xenophobe.

And worst of all, she committed the worst possible of sins: she got something he wanted instead of him.

If the rumors are true, and she is hiding in a/the US Embassy, it’s a safe bet her Eviction Notice is forthcoming.

She’ll likely be extraordinarily rendered to Nick Maduro’s front porch.

Trump … … peace?! … …
