Is there an image hosting site as good as Imgur that works in the UK (or everywhere)?

In the thread Nobel Peace Prize Announced; It Doesn’t Go to Trump

@Peter_Morris asked:

@Darren_Garrison responded:

To not continue this there I wanted to ask here.

I get that @Peter_Morris is frustrated but I gotta go with @Darren_Garrison on this one.

Imgur is SO much better to use than any image hosting site I have ever seen. They require no account (read track me). They make it as simple as possible to put an image in and get a link and then you can paste that link in near anywhere and it just works!

It seems the UK has imposed rules that Imgur is not willing to comply with and blocked them (likely for costs and not ideology).

I really do not want to stop using Imgur unless there is another solution. Is there one that is as good and simple?

Already a thread for this discussion.

But yes, there are lots of free image hosts that work just great.

I’ve been quite satisfied with gyazo.com for going on 10 years now. No account needed. You can upload pics, and also they have an easy app to do captures of sections of your screen.

Is anybody reading this thread unable to see this pic?

ETA: Hmm, okay, it seems they’ve changed since I started, and now all new users do require a free account. Apparently I got grandfathered in from before they required everybody to have accounts and it’s only my cookie on my computer that’s telling it I don’t need a login.

Works ok for me in the UK.

A relevant quote from another thread where the image hosting topic has been discussed:

There is no perfect solution, and whatever might work today is not guaranteed to work tomorrow. It’s just how the internet is now.

Check out https://postimg.cc/. It was evidently created for the primary purpose of sharing images on message boards. It has a very simple interface and no registration requirement. You can optionally resize images and set an expiration when you upload.

I’ve only tried it a couple times, but I actually like it better than Imgur. When you upload a picture, it immediately gives you the direct link with a useful “copy” button, so I don’t have to do the additional steps of opening the picture in a new tab.

@Peter_Morris mentioned it in the other thread but maybe didn’t call enough attention to it.

I’ll add, Shutterfly has been working well for me as a replacement for Imgur. And today I installed the app as an experiment, and pretty easily uploaded a photo from my phone to the online site to link it into a post. I’ve totally abandoned Imgur now.

Each month there is a different topic for the monthly photography competition. The first post each month has steps on how to use ImgBB to post photos here on the SDMB. We typically use ImgBB because of the problem with imgur in the UK.

Here it is for this month:

Monthly Photo Competition #38– January, 2026 – “Fire or Ice"

I took your advice and used ImgBB in this post:

Instead of showing the pic in the thread it made a link to it with a thumbnail

I prefer Imgur since it just displays the pic.

Also, when you click on the pic, it is mighty slow at loading the image (I guess it is loading the orignal many MB image instead of the smaller and faster JPG image). Reaaaaalllly slow. And I have very fast internet.

Boo to ImgBB (my $0.02)

ETA - Here they are in comparison:

Versus…

Try https://postimg.cc/. When it uploads the picture, use the copy button on the second link, which is directly to the picture.

Direct image display with ibb

You are doing it wrong.

The page you link to provides HTML and BBcode that you could post in SDMB to show the image.

Just post the supplied code and it will show the image.

Even allowing for you doing it wrong, the first gives me a link that I can click on to see the image, while the second does not allow me to see the image at all. The first is much preferable.

What he said.

I just tried ImgBB and the SDMB gave me error after error that it does not support the code. All I could do was use the thing I did above which does not display the photo.

Doubtless I am doing it wrong but therein lies the problem. Imgur just works. No fuss. I don’t need to dick around figuring out which code I need to use out of a long list.

I’ve been trying it lately with no problems.

I mentioned a simple alternative a couple times, so if you’re wedded to Imgur, a third time won’t change your mind. But really, https://postimages.org/ works great and it includes our UK posters. It’s a simple upload, then one click to copy the direct link.
