Nobel Peace Prize Announced; It Doesn't Go to Trump

I’d have said, review in five or ten years’ time. We might by then know if there is peace (hint: “They create a wilderness and call it peace” isn’t much of a recommendation,)

I’d be willing to bet that his interest in any conflicts will go from 60 to zero in about a week. They’re of no use to him any more since he didn’t win the shiny trinket. He’ll claim that the prize is rigged and that the people who award it are “low IQ”.

My bold.

Off to El Salvador with him!

All of this.

First, if it happens at all, and second, if it lasts more than a couple of days, I’ll be surprised. Trump’s incentive is certainly gone.

It will be announced on Truth Social today that Trump won the Noble Peas Prize, to prevent any tantrums at the White House and amongst his followers. They won’t know the difference anyway and will regain their focus on lib-owning.

he would claim it again next year. Because being the first to win it twice, and in a row!, would show that he is the greatest bestest peacenik in the history of History. Like he recently went smugly on and on about having been the first US president to officially visit the UK twice. Malignant narcissism is incurable and insatiable. No use to give him something to placate him: having been given something just shows that he deserves more.
Poor psycho sicko, I hope he gets relieved of his misery soon. Forget autism, RFK Jr. should focus his energy on finding a cure for him. Then they can share a Nobel prize for medicine.

Where is your optimism? If this is not an incentive to try harder next year, I don’t know what is.

Gotta say, kind of disheartening that all across the Web, what should be a celebration of the democratic opposition in Venezuela is turned into portraying it as most importantly a slight to someone else.

Almost as if goading him to be angry about it ‘cause that would generate good content. :face_exhaling:

“There’s always next year” should be a motivation to make it work and stick. In any case the voting was likely to have happened before the Gaza plan was finalized. It’s not a Cy Young or a Grammy, it does not have to have happened the same year.

“When authoritarians seize power, it is crucial to recognize courageous defenders of freedom who rise and resist,” the committee said.

Hmmm…might there be any subtext to this quote by the Nobel committee, regarding their Peace Prize choice?

Nahhhh… :smirk:

Agreed.

Irony is that the prize committee could have been deliberately picking someone who is BOTH deserving and acceptable to the U.S.:

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio called Machado “the personification of resilience, tenacity, and patriotism” in a profile for her inclusion in this year’s TIME 100 list of the most influential people in the world.

If they didn’t care about triggering Trump, they could have potentially picked Greta Thunberg (I’m guessing she gets nominated every year but do not know for sure).

I am a little unsure about this post in that it implies the Nobel committee cares about how internationally divisive their pick is. They may not care a fig about DJT, and have legitimate reservations about Thunberg. But if they do care about Donald and friends, they picked the least triggering choice who is deserving.

“And the grapes! So sour!”

While being a South American woman who supports democracy.

Give it about 12 hours before they suddenly discover she’s the secret leader of Tren De Aquamarine. Then they’ll declare the Nobel committee supporters of terrorism and anti-trum.

I am betting he goes the “Who won the what? I never wanted to win whatever that is in the first place!” route.

Ummm…no. Large point or small, this sort of reasoning only gives in to Trump. Look up Neville Chamberlain.

I can’t say for sure that awarding the Prize to Machado was a deliberate slap at Trump, but really, a woman and a Venezuelan? C’mon, you can’t tell me the Nobel Committee wasn’t sniggering when they voted to do this.

And as gleeful as I am at this outcome, I have to say that it doesn’t reflect well on the Committee. Awarding the Prize as a “nyeah, nyeah, nyeah” is not a good look. And it does cause winning the Nobel Prize to decrease in prestige in the future, if all winning the Prize means is a political slap at someone else.

I would’ve really preferred the Prize go to someone deserving, but not as such an obvious gesture of contempt. As much as that contempt is deserved.

But yeah, we’re never going to hear the end of this.

Moderating:

This thread is far too political for MPSIMS. Off to P&E.

Giving Trump a Nobel is not the same as giving Hitler Czechoslovakia. Czechoslovakia was a real place, with real people, whereas the Nobel Prize is just a trophy. Like all trophies, it doesn’t actually mean anything.

There are good comebacks available to Trump. He could announce himself as the first ever winner of the Charlie Kirk Memorial Peace Prize for Outstanding Service to Humanity and Lib-Owning, minted in 58-karat gold and so massive that it requires the Budweiser Clydesdales to haul it in triumph through the National Guard-protected streets of D.C.

Or he could declare Norway the 51st state in retaliation.

Or both.

True, but I said “Large point or small”. The Nobel Prize is a small point. But it’s a small point that Trump does not deserve. So he should not be awarded it. Period.

He probably needs to stop threatening to invade random countries with no basis other than “I wanna” before he’s eligible for a “peace prize”. I think that seems like a fair baseline.

She posted (linked to xcancel instead of Xitter for reasons):

This recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans is a boost to conclude our task: to conquer Freedom.

We are on the threshold of victory and today, more than ever, we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic nations of the world as our principal allies to achieve Freedom and democracy.

I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support of our cause!

Man, that is well played.

Yes, agreed!

Trump is going to go all computer-talking-to-Captain-Kirk. He wants the prize, but she praised him, she praised him, but he wants the prize, Bzzzt, Fizzz…does not compute, Ego both flattered and insulted, bzzzt POP!

ETA: Trump invites her to the White House, then pulls a Putin, and just walks off with the Nobel medal, leaving her surrounded by Secret Service agents to prevent her from taking it back.
