The judges are Norwegian politicians. Norway’s “Progress Party” is Trumpy and on the rise. So never say never.
Even the old-fashioned Norwegian conservatives might see plusses and minuses to giving Trump a future award.
Did anyone outside of MAGA seriously think he had a chance this year?
Getting it next year has an added advantage; it could provide momentum for the Republicans in the elections a month later.
One thing does stand in the way; I doubt it would go to just Trump, and if Netanyahu is included, there’s the whole “well, the UN thinks you were complicit in genocide” thing. It might smack of giving the 1945 prize to Admiral Doenitz for “helping to end WWII” (by surrendering).
Isn’t that the truth! That was exactly my reaction–we never see that kind of humility and graciousness in the news any more.
Not really. But we’ve been burned so badly by believing (before DJT) and saying it out loud that “that couldn’t possibly happen!” It makes you skittish.

Trump himself has complained that “I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize no matter what I do.”
Fear is a powerful motivator. It’s entirely possible that even a “self-respecting organization” might decide to throw some meat to the mad dog to distract it.
I mean, it’s true, because he is literally incapable of doing anything selfless.

Probably not. The nomination process runs from mid October to Jan 31st. Any letter sent outside this range is not a valid nomination.
It’s been a common story here in the UK, getting a lot more press time than the actual winner and, on some channels, even the peace deal itself. Often a “debate” with one person trying to claim with a straight face he should have won.
It’s pretty maddening really. The more I think about it, the more I can list reasons why he shouldn’t get it 1. It’s way too soon to see if this deal has been successful 2. He helped arm and embolden Netanyahu. He almost-certainly prolonged the war (though we also have to credit Biden with the assist). 3. He’s basically trying to launch a war against his own people 4. He has engaged in extra-judicial killings with dubious evidence of being drug boats etc etc
Which is another point: it’s not supposed to be awarded for one thing that was announced last month.
I get a feeling the Nobel Committee is going to wait for like another 5 to 10 years or so of succesful activism. Or give it to an organization she leads rather than to herself. No real reason, just feels that way.
I was holding out the very very remote hope that Kamala would get it.

On a different note, although I’m sure Trump wants the Nobel for prestige and bragging rights, I think the money (now $1,000,000+) is part of the prize’s appeal.

Surely. My hoping for this was purely for the Orange Monster meltdown and MAGA heads exploding. Sadly the Nobel committee isn’t as interested in trolling them as I wish they were.

While that is a perfect response it is far too subtle to count as a case of the Nobel committee trolling DJT and his cultists. He/they are far too dimwitted to understand they are being called out.
I don’t know if it’s been mentioned before, but according to Trump, Maria Corina Machado called him after the Nobel announcement to tell him that his support had so inspired her that she felt he should have received the Nobel Peace Prize instead, which he felt was “very nice” of her. Being equally nice himself, he humbly said that he refrained from saying “then give it to me!”.
My only problem with this tale is that Trump has been known to say things on one or two occasions that were not entirely truthful. 
Man, that guy wants that Nobel Peace Prize so bad! His little toddler brain is going nuts over it!
