Rather than keep resurrecting this thread, I’m taking the liberty of starting a new one.
Here’s the plan as last published:[ul]N. FlaDope Picnic in the Shade

12:00 Noon - till
Suwannee State Park, Live Oak FL
Full picnic facilities available, fishing, nature trails and good old fresh air! Don’t forget to bring your supersoakers and frisbees! Camping is available for those who wish to make a weekend out of it, and full service facilities are available for RVs. Click here for more info, driving directions.[/ul]Now, before I go driving all the way out there, I want to know that more than 2 or 3 people will be showing up. I had a lovely time meeting the three brave souls who came to OrlanDope, but I spent over 6 hours in the car for 2 hours at the park. I don’t want to do the same thing again.
So, time for a body count - who’s planning to come to Live Oak on Saturday? Raise your hands and commit!
swampbear is descending on Suwannee State Park! That oughta make em all want to show up. Look, folks, I’m gonna show up even though my brand new pool is supposed to be finished by then. If I can do this in spite of being able to float around in pool comfort then y’all can too! Don’t make me and FairyChatMom have to come and hunt you all down. You know we would, right?
Hey, swampbear! I tried to email you and my message came back refused!! Have you blocked me? I’m crushed!
ivylass - it really wasn’t a bust, exactly. KarlGrenze and I had a lot of time to talk. And I did enjoy meeting you and g8rguy too, but I do truly hate driving, and six hours with a furry pink steering wheel just about drove me over the edge! The only thing that saved me were the yummy brownies! <drool>
Well, we won’t be down there in time for the Fests. I s’pose I could drive down the 13 hours or so for this, plus the 13 hours back. It’s certainly what iampunha would do. But I’m not on his level.
We will be down on the Pinellas coast during pretty much the whole month of July. Except that we might spend some days in Orlando. But that’s just too late, right?
FCM I’m at work, but I’ll check my email when I get home to see if I accidentally blocked you. See, I’ve been doing this report spam and block thing lately and a couple times I have accidentally blocked email addresses from others. One such was a professional message board and one was a cousin who called me and asked why I blocked email from him. OOPS! Sometimes I get going too fast with that stuff and accidentally block what I don’t mean too. I’ll check, I promise! If I did, I can fix it. I’ll send ya an email to let you know when I fix it.

Bad, bad bear for not paying attention to what he does on his 'puter.
OK, barring unforseen circumstances (like if the transmission in my van finally gives out), I’ll be there. The thought of being anywhere but in bed at noon on a Saturday makes me squeamish, but hell, it’s all in the name of fun.
Put me down as a very wishy-washy definite “maybe.”
I close on my house on Monday. Walk through on Sunday. Although I can’t see any reason this minute that I might not be able to make it… One never knows. Shit could come up at the last minute. I’d rather be wishy washy and not commit rather than commit, blow you off, feel guilty and have my reputation among Dopers tarnished forever.
One last bump before letting this plummet into oblivion. If we can’t get at least five Dopers to commit to this picnic (we’ve got 3 now), I won’t be making the 2 hour drive. I’d really like for us to get together, but interest appears to be flagging.
So, North Florida and South Georgia Dopers, what say ye? Now? Later? Some nebulous time in the future?
It’s looking bleak - I think I’m going to back out of this one. I didn’t realize until just now how far I’d have to travel. It’s about 3.5 hours each way, and there’s just nothing that’s going to get me up early enough on a Saturday to make it some place 3.5 hours away by noon. Add to that the fact that I don’t trust my vehicle to make another long trip (it just traveled here from Massachusetts and the transmission’s acting up) and it just doesn’t seem like a good idea. Sorry, folks. I vote for “some nebulous time in the future.”
In case there’s any question or doubt, this has become a non-event. The only person who responded positively to this thread or my email was swampbear, and neither he nor I fancy driving over 2 hours just to see each other again.
Maybe we can try again in the fall when it cools down a bit. As for me, I’ll be mucking about in my garden tomorrow, weather permitting.
And I can look at my cee-ment hole full of water all day tomorrow! For those not in the know, that is my pet name for my not quite yet finished pool. Actually, I’m going to spend the day putting poolside stuff together.
Maybe fall will be better. Hope we can get something going by then.
